Masterpieces of Futurism at Peggy Guggenheim Collection
Art exhibition, from 18.02.2009 until 31.12.2009

Also Peggy Guggenheim Collection of Venice celebrates Futurism, the artistic movement that affected the whole European artistic scene.
After one century since Futurist Manifesto by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti was published in Le Figaro – 20th February 1909 – the Masterpieces of Futurism exhibition begins on the 18th February at Peggy Guggenheim Collection, curated by Philip Rylands.
With masterpieces such as Dynamism of a cyclist by Boccioni, Mercury passing before the sun by Balla, Interventionist Demonstration by Carrà, Blue Dancer by Severini, other works of Peggy Guggenheim Collection and some loans from private collections, this exhibition pays a tribute to Gianni Mattioli’s genius, one of the most important 20th Century collectionists. His collection includes an important group of futuristic paintings by Giacomo Balla, Umberto Boccioni, Carlo Carrà, Luigi Russolo, Gino Severini, Ottone Rosai, Mario Sironi and Ardengo Soffici.
An introducing section will be dedicated to paintings, sculptures and drawings that contributes to lay the context for futuristic themes in the framework of other 19th Century avant-gardes, such as Divisionism, Cubism, Orphism and Vorticism.
