The video-installation of David Michalek, Slow Dancing, will open Biennale Dance 2008. On Saturday 14, at Corderie dell’Arsenale.
Slow Dancing is formed of 46 portraits produced using a technique planned by Michalek of very slow motion images.
The Californian artist filmed a brief sequence of movements – not more than 5 seconds – of dancers and choreographers from around the world, aged between 14 and 90, presenting different techniques, styles and cultures. From classical ballet to post-classical, modern to post-modern, tap dance to hip hop, jazz to flamenco, but also including mystical Sufi dance, butoh, theatre-dance, Indian dance.
