Dannunzian itineraries…rediscovering Venice

Event 24.05.08

Gabriele D’Annunzio

The 24th May marks the beginning of an interesting initiative aimed at rediscovering a little-known Venice, the city seen through the eyes of Gabriele D’Annunzio.

It involves a series of itineraries, both on foot and by gondola, created by Filippo Caburlotto, author of D’Annunzio a Venezia, that uses his Taccuini – his Venetian novels and memoirs – to propose a new way of visiting Venice through the words of the poet.

Saturdays and Sundays, pre-booking required.

The itineraries are:

Alla scoperta del Fuoco (The Discovery of “The Flame of Life”): from Palazzo Van Axel to the Church of San Giovanni e Paolo.
In the footsteps of the young D’Annunzio intent upon discovering the city, recording its secrets, its views and masterpieces, as well as a re-interpretation of the same landscape through the eyes of the now mature war veteran. An unconventional journey through concealed calli, with legendary personalities and the first sparks of “The Flame of Life”.

Il Canalazzo: from Ca’ d’Oro to San Simeon Piccolo.
The great palazzi on the Canal Grande through the eyes of the Vate (Bard). The myths, connections and reflections in D’Annunzio’s literary work and biography. A journey that goes up the Canal Grande from the Rialto Bridge to Piazzale Roma, in search of The Flame of Life, but also escorted by lingering sparks that seem to re-ignite as they come into contact with the places.

Alla scoperta del Fuoco (The Discovery of “The Flame of Life”): from San Cassiano to Ca’ Foscari.
A journey that uncovers numerous links with The Flame of Life and D’Annunzio’s Taccuini as it unwinds through the city centre. From the curious details to the great relics, from the mysteries to the literary personification, in the footsteps of a novel and a biography that come into being contemporaneously.
