Late Titian and the Sensuality of Painting

The last masterpieces of the great Italian master Tiziano Vecellio in an extraordinary exhibition at the Gallerie dell’Accademia.The 28 works, realized between 1550 and 1576, reveal a style unusual for Titian: swift, densely laid-down brushstrokes cause sensuality, colour and spirituality to mingle on the canvas.
The exhibition comprises three sections dedicated to portraits, sacred and profane paintings, all characterised by the “pittura a macchia” (patchiness), a term coined by Vasari, of Titian’s last manner.
