New Yorker and Venetian, Michele Hickey Gemin chose Venice to open her LAM Ceramica studio, where she combines wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques to create unique products with a minimal and sculptural design. Gold leaf processing workshop, Cannaregio 5182
Gold leaf processing is an ancient art that reached the lagoon from Byzantium. The gold is worked with heavy hammers, receiving approximately 30,000 strikes. Only if the beating is done by hand does the gold atom remain unaltered, and thus, after about eight hours of work, the precious and impalpable gold leaf is obtained.
Master Marino Menegazzo is the last goldbeater in the lagoon and, with his wife and daughters, runs the Mario Berta Battiloro company, guardian of the ancient family craft started back in 1926 in the historic artisan workshop.

The Fallani artisan screen-printing workshop has been a legend since 1968, when Fiorenzo Fallani opened the studio in Venice. Inspired by the city that was the European capital of graphics and printing from the 15th to the 18th century, he turned it into an innovative experimental screen-printing hub and a point of reference for national and international artists: Emilio Vedova, Giuseppe Santomaso, Mario Schifano, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Salvatore Fiume, Aligi Sassu, Renato Guttuso, Virgilio Guidi, Bruno Saetti, Mimmo Rotella, and many others.
Led today by Gianpaolo Fallani, recognized as a MAM – Master of Arts and Crafts by the Michelangelo Foundation, the screen-printing studio continues to collaborate with international artists, photographers, and illustrators such as Antoni Muntadas, Dario Fo, Nina Bunjevac, Hee Sook Kim, Lucio Schiavon, Giampiero Bodino, Bruno Bozzetto, and Mattia Caracciolo, with whom it produces art prints and creates opportunities for exchange and dialogue, residencies, and workshops.
The workshop is open to the city with cultural events, concerts, presentations, and exhibitions, serving as a place to continue experimenting with new forms of expression through screen printing.

Laura Aletti lives and works in Venice; she has lived in Egypt and London and is now in the lagoon with her husband, her two children, and their dog TrueLife, who has a Facebook page of his own. The ecosystem of creativity
Atelier Aperti is an initiative to promote Venetian craftsmanship. It is a project by Venezia da Vivere, like Venice Fashion Week, the event that promotes Venice as a center of production and creativity, presenting fashion in Venice through shows and events.
The next edition of Atelier Aperti is from April 12 to 30, 2022, as part of the Homo Faber program.
