Venetian Sartorial Art at T Fondaco dei Tedeschi celebrates 60 years of the career of a Venetian heritage: Master Franco Puppato. A conversation with friends from the world of fashion and publishing met during his long career, at the Event Pavilion—the space opening onto the breathtaking terrace overlooking the entire city.
Jacopo Nani Mocenigo Bentivoglio d’Aragona, Franz Botré, Tommaso Trespidi, Felice Piacenza and Chiara Modica Donà dalle Rose, together with Master Puppato, took us on a journey through the history of fashion and costume in aristocratic Venice from the 14th century to the present day.
Ancient crafts: tailoring
The Serenissima was the primary European emporium of the Mediterranean. Thanks to trade with the East and merchants capable of venturing beyond known routes, Venice imported, among other things, precious fabrics, yarns, and dyes, creating an invaluable heritage of fashionable items found nowhere else. Venice’s commercial prowess was magnificently intertwined with local craftsmanship, precious Venetian weaving, the ethereal Burano lace, and extraordinary manual skill.
A conversation between Countess Chiara Modica Donà dalle Rose, Count Jacopo Nani-Mocenigo Bentivoglio d’Aragona, an expert in the history of costume, Franz Botré, editor of Arbiter magazine, Felice Piacenza, Special Project & Heritage Manager of Piacenza1733, and the young tailor Tommaso Trespidi, a 2023 finalist for the Le Forbici d’Oro award from the National Academy of Tailors, to discuss the all-encompassing Venetian style of Puppato tailoring, in Venice since 1964.
