I Love Venice and I Adore Bags. Carla Plessi Presents Giacometa, the Bag Inspired by a Secret Venice

Giacometa is the new artisanal bag project by designer Carla Plessi, a tribute to Giacomo Casanova in which sensuality and playfulness are the key to interpreting a mysterious Venice. The collection will be presented from Monday, May 5, 2025, at Atelier Lunardelli Venezia, in Calle Seconda del Cristo, 2210a, in Santa Croce.
For the Venetian designer, whose creations accompany women who live and work in the art world, the bag is a narrative. Following the diary-bag collections, which tell stories of journeys and personal experiences, Giacometa is now born, an object of identity affirmation, inspired by an element of the Venetian gondola, the Manisone.
With this new collection, Carla Plessi captures an intimate aspect of Venetian life: Venice seen from the water. From this perspective, the architecture is more majestic, and the gondola reveals details with hidden meanings: the gleaming irons, the reflections, the light on the velvets, the colors, and the manisoni. The latter become a signature, the center of the collection: transformed into totems and handles, they merge artisanal gesture and vision.
Conceived as extensions of the body, Giacometa bags are shield-objects with which to navigate urban life.
I LOVE VENICE AND I ADORE BAGS
Venice welcomed me many years ago, drawing me into a whirlwind of beauty. And still, every day it amazes me, offering an unknown detail, a sculpture never seen, a hidden painting.
Even the occasion of a gondola ride becomes discovery and wonder. From the water, Venice acquires a new perspective, the architecture becomes even more majestic and imposing, the palaces tower in a continuous challenge. The gondola itself becomes an entity never seen before: its irons with their hidden meaning, the manisoni… Indeed, the manisoni appeared to me as the perfect companions for my bags—pompoms, colors, shape, and decoration. The colors are found everywhere, in the seats of the gondolas themselves, emblems of the gondoliers’ families. The boats themselves were born colored, but color in the city is everywhere, in the mosaics, in the stuccos, in the frescoes, in the decorations laden with velvets that cloaked the secrets of the alcoves.
Here is the material of my bags, which are my shield, my armor, my protection. Not an accessory but a prosthesis. An aesthetic affirmation of the personality of the wearer, just as the interiors are the protagonists of the treasure chest that allows itself to be discovered. “Giacometa” will be the name of my new armor with manisoni dedicated to Giacomo Casanova.

Throughout the opening days of the Architecture Biennale, from May 5 to 10, Atelier Lunardelli Venezia, a space dedicated to the design, production, and narration of contemporary craftsmanship, will be a place open to dialogue between craftsmanship, architecture, design, and artistic research, with the permanent collection of design objects in wood and Murano glass, and exhibitions, presentations, and cultural events.
