How are the artisans of the future born? Mano a Mano is a project by The Place Of Wonders Foundation in which Venetian masters train new artisans: an integrated approach between production and professional training that combines tradition with the contemporary and revitalizes craft schools
Promoting and supporting Venetian artisanal traditions and laying the educational foundations for new craft talents: these are the concepts behind Mano a Mano, the project established in 2023 through the collaboration between The Place of Wonders Foundation — part of the Babini Family’s The Hospitality Experience group —, Relais & Châteaux Londra Palace Venezia, and Venezia da Vivere.
A capsule collection of objects created with traditional techniques and materials is born from the dialogue between master artisans and Venetian designers. Murano glass beads, velvet, silk, leather, and brass bring to life handmade travel items that tell the story of Venice, exhibited at the Londra Palace. They can be purchased in exchange for a donation, helping to fund scholarships and educational programs for young artisans.
The project stands out for its integrated approach, which involves the production of artisanal objects alongside educational and training activities.
Between 2023 and 2024, The Place of Wonders Foundation provided four scholarships for four young apprentices in the lampworking glass course led by Alessia Fuga and Marisa Convento.
Michela Canzi Blanc, the foundation’s director, explains that Venice is the source of inspiration and the ideal location for this project: supporting young people in accessing training activities and professional courses directly within the city’s ateliers and historic workshops.
This project aims to keep Venice’s rich cultural heritage alive, while ensuring that these arts continue to thrive in the hands of a new generation of creators.
The collaboration between different entities helps to preserve local craftsmanship, says Alain Bullo, Maître de Maison of the Londra Palace Venezia.
