Compostable garments, digital luxury, augmented reality, 4.0 training, transformation of contemporary-inspired pieces: Venezia da Vivere, Fondazione di Venezia, and Upskill 4.0 during Venice Fashion Week share how to enhance craftsmanship with new technologies
A capsule collection of 100% compostable garments; a captivating digital luxury experience through augmented reality and Instagram filters; 4.0 training and new cultural partnerships; a new “only for you” digital service and Trame Vissute as a proposal for transforming contemporary-inspired, genderless, and modular pieces. These are some of the innovative solutions developed for the Upskill Venezia project, presented in the spaces of the 5* hotel Palazzo Venart, by Venezia da Vivere, Michele Bugliesi and Stefano Micelli during Venice Fashion Week.
Upskill Venezia: Enhancing Craftsmanship with New Technologies is the event dedicated to cultural and artisan enterprises to enhance craftsmanship with new technologies, organized by Fondazione di Venezia in collaboration with Upskill 4.0, with the support of the Venetian universities Ca’ Foscari Venezia and IUAV and under the patronage of Confindustria Venezia and the Camera di Commercio di Venezia Rovigo.
During the event, the Upskill 4.0 project managers, coordinated by Selena Brocca, presented to guests a selection of projects developed with students aged 20-25 from Higher Technical Institutes (ITS) across Italy alongside several Venetian artisan enterprises involved in the last two editions of Upskill Venezia:
– Martina Vidal Venezia, for four generations the atelier in Burano has been creating precious lace for clothing and interior design accessories.
– Micromega, from the most extravagant shapes to the most minimal simplicity, imperceptible frames and unique lightness, since 2000 the Venetian company has been creating custom-made, handcrafted eyewear with an international patent filed by its founder, Roberto Carlon.
– Ramosalso is the brand name of tailor Demis Marin, who in his boutique in Rialto transforms second-hand or old garments with great sentimental value into new ones, thanks to the upcycling technique.
– Tabinotabi is a Venetian fashion brand: innovative and ecological. The distinctive feature of its fabrics is that they are produced exclusively using plant-based and organic yarns.
At the end of the event, guests will be able to try the technological solutions developed and meet the artisans.
All the prototypes on display have utilized Design Thinking: a methodology for managing innovation processes that integrates people’s needs with the opportunities offered by technology.
“Combining tradition and innovation by giving voice to the talent of young people and the craftsmanship of artisans – emphasized Michele Bugliesi, president of Fondazione di Venezia – is the distinctive feature of the Upskill Venezia project. A project in which Fondazione di Venezia strongly believes, in the conviction that technological and digital innovation in service of artisan production activities can contribute not only to consolidating the specificity of ancient crafts, but also to enhancing their value on an international scale. The contribution in terms of creativity and vision that young ITS students offer in this process is crucial, and the Foundation intends to continue supporting it.”
“Venice has a heritage of knowledge related to craftsmanship that deserves to be reinterpreted – stated Stefano Micelli, president of Upskill 4.0 – Upskill 4.0 aims to enhance this knowledge by promoting digital innovation pathways that involve researchers and students from Higher Technical Institutes across Italy. These pathways aim to develop sustainable growth prospects and to renew young people’s attention to the city.”
The Upskill Venezia project offers a fresh perspective on Venice as a vital place, rich in growing artisan enterprises, which has made quality manufacturing a lever to conquer new market spaces. This is how Upskill Venezia facilitates the meeting between the technical-professional skills of young ITS students and the needs of Venetian companies.
