History, art, and culture: in Venice, art venues are reopening to the public with exhibitions and initiatives to be experienced together.
With Venice returning to the yellow zone, the city begins to breathe again and reopens its art venues to a public eager to see live exhibitions from major Venetian institutions such as the Giorgio Cini Foundation, the Gallerie dell’Accademia, the Pinault Foundation with Palazzo Grassi, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, the Jewish Museum, and many others.

The Gallerie dell’Accademia
The Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice are reopening safely on weekdays without time restrictions, and are enriching the experience with a gift: for two weeks, from Monday, February 8 until February 21, 2021, the canvas of the Sacra Conversazione with Saints Catherine and Thomas is on display—a magnificent example of the pictorial mastery of Lorenzo Lotto, which arrived last mid-October from the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
The canvas will be shown to visitors as part of the A Masterpiece for Venice initiative, launched in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo to exhibit paintings from major international museums. The work, an extraordinary testament to Renaissance painting, combines spontaneity with the artist’s brilliant insights, depicting Saints Catherine and Thomas in a dialogue of glances and gestures that recount premonitions regarding the fate of Jesus.
Starting from this masterpiece by Lotto, free in-depth sessions are planned (included in the ticket price, no reservation required) regarding the works in the collection, to analyze the multiple aspects concerning the paintings: from art history to scientific investigations, from conservation issues to restoration techniques, and from the enjoyment of the work to the dialogue with contemporary life.
On Monday, February 8, the Director himself, Giulio Manieri Elia, will kick off the visits by accompanying us on a discovery of the work, to restart in person with inspirations and new relationships with the artworks, the visitors, and the museum staff.

Le Stanze del Vetro at the Giorgio Cini Foundation
Le Stanze del Vetro reopens to the public in person and free of charge on the island of San Giorgio with the monumental installation Laguna Murano Chandelier by American artist Dale Chihuly.
A jellyfish, a starfish, an eel, an octopus, a crab, a pufferfish, sharks, a mermaid, and the God of the sea, Neptune: eight gigantic sculptural elements inspired by the Venetian lagoon, created in 1996 in Murano by the American artist together with master glassmakers Lino Tagliapietra and Pino Signoretto.
The installation, part of the “Venice and American Studio Glass” project by the Giorgio Cini Foundation and Pentagram Stiftung—which continues to be fully accessible online thanks to a 3D virtual tour—is on display until March 12, 2021, in the Sala Carnelutti of the Giorgio Cini Foundation on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM.

The Museum of Palazzo Grimani
Palazzo Grimani also reopens from February 3 until May 30, 2021 with the exhibition project Domus Grimani 1594 – 2019 which celebrates the return to Palazzo Grimani after over four centuries of the collection of classical statues belonging to Giovanni Grimani and the “paron de casa,” the portrait attributed to Domenico Tintoretto of the Patriarch of Aquileia, Giovanni Grimani, thanks also to the restoration and enhancement work by Venetian Heritage on this unique jewel of Hidden Venice.
The statuary collection left Palazzo Grimani in 1594 to be displayed in the vestibule of the Marciana Library, where it will return after May 30, 2021. Due to the exceptional and unrepeatable nature of this arrangement, which allows us to relive the atmosphere of a 16th-century aristocratic residence in its original appearance, the discovery or rediscovery of Palazzo Grimani is one of the absolute must-do things in Venice. The Jewish Museum of Venice
The Jewish Museum of Venice reopens to provide a sign of redemption for the people and the city with many appointments: Thursday, February 4 and 11 from 11 AM to 6:30 PM and Friday, February 5 and 12 from 10 AM to 3:30 PM for a tour dedicated to the history of the Venice Ghetto and the opportunity to learn about fundamental moments of Jewish life such as birth and marriage, the cycle of major Jewish holidays, and other insights.
The Jewish Museum in Venice is a collection of exhibition spaces and synagogues located both inside and outside the Museum. Guided tours are available for the Spanish Synagogue and the midrash Cohanim, the secret garden of the Scola Spagnola, the Italian Synagogue, the ancient Jewish cemetery (late 14th century), and the new one (17th century). The full ticket price is 10 euros, 8 euros for the reduced rate, and 7 euros for Venice residents.

Palazzo Grassi
The doors of Palazzo Grassi reopen free of charge every Thursday and Friday from 10 AM to 7 PM from Thursday, February 11 to Friday, February 26, 2021, to allow anyone to admire the photographs of the Eye of the Century, as Henri Cartier-Bresson was nicknamed.
The exhibition Henri Cartier-Bresson. Le Grand Jeu is an exhibition project conceived and coordinated by the young French photography historian Matthieu Humery, realized thanks to the Bibliothèque nationale de France and in collaboration with the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson.
In parallel with the exhibition dedicated to the great pioneer of photojournalism, Palazzo Grassi hosts a monographic exhibition dedicated to the photographs of Youssef Nabil titled “Youssef Nabil. Once Upon a Dream,” curated by Matthieu Humery and Jean-Jacques Aillagon.
In the rooms on the second floor, the visitor retraces the career of the Egyptian photographer, from his early works to his most recent pieces.

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection
Pollock, Kandinsky, Calder, Picasso, and Magritte await us: from Thursday, February 11, 2021, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection reopens to the public every Thursday and Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM, with mandatory reservation on the website guggenheim-venice.it.
We will return to admire the spaces of Palazzo Venier dei Leoni and the masterpieces of Peggy Guggenheim’s permanent collection of modern and contemporary art. Tickets can be purchased exclusively online. Members and visitors entitled to free entry can book their admission by writing to prenotazioni@guggenheim-venice.it specifying the day and time slot.

The Querini Stampalia Foundation
The Museum of Palazzo Querini, the Garden and the Scarpa Area, and the Intesa Sanpaolo Collection of the Querini Stampalia Foundation are ready to welcome us again starting from Tuesday, February 9, 2021, from Tuesday to Friday from 2 PM to 6 PM, by reservation only and with a reduced price ticket.
Until May 2, 2021, there is access to the documentary exhibition Once Upon a Time there was the Plague. Venice and the containment measures of the disease between the 16th and 17th centuries, set up in the Library.
The beloved Library where we all studied until midnight is open only to registered users and by reservation, from Tuesday to Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM. The Bookshop and Cafeteria are also open, to fully enjoy the time spent at the Querini.
We recommend everyone take a brief and silent walk through these splendid environments. The Library, besides being a temple of culture with its 350,000 volumes including ancient works and books, is also the place where Venetians and students from all over the world have spent hours reading and gathering whispers. A place that immediately fascinates with its warm and enveloping welcome, rich in original 19th-century treasures.

The Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation
Vetrine accese. The artists of the ateliers in Piazza San Marco returns—the project for the arrangement of the four display windows of the Galleria di Piazza San Marco overlooking Seconda Calle de l’Ascension, featuring works specifically conceived by emerging artists selected by the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation Institution.
Every year, the Institution awards 15 residencies at Palazzo Carminati for artists from all over the world. A program that began in 1901 with the mission to promote, help, and train young artists. “Vetrine accese” is the stimulus to offer visibility to contemporary creativity.
For the next three months, groups of four artists will take turns to each create a display window, ranging from photography, video, and painting to printmaking.
