The Procuratie Vecchie in St. Mark’s Square
After 500 years and for the first time in their history, the Procuratie Vecchie in St. Mark’s Square are opening to the public. From April 8 until August 31, 2022, admission will be free for Venetians and residents. This major intervention, supported by the Generali Group, involved architect David Chipperfield and will house the social foundation The Human Safety Net.
Lights and pixels at the Marciana Library
From April 8 to November 27, 2022, the large site-specific work Memory: The Light of Time/Memoria: Luce del tempo by Federica Marangoni, curated by Roberta Semeraro and Viana Conti, retraces the key themes of the Venetian artist in the spaces of the Marciana Library, in Piazzetta San Marco.
SUMUS and sustainability
The Fucina del Futuro is a new center for culture and research in Venice. It opens on Friday, April 8 with the exhibition From Chaos to Harmony by artists VAL – Valérie Goutard, Sébastien Lilli, and Brigitte Moreau Serre. SUMUS is a project created by Hélène Molinari that will give shape to innovative ideas and projects with the aim of making Venice an ideal city for the future.
A week of Fiorella Mancini
More than 2,000 items of clothing collected between Treviso, Venice, and Rome in an exhibition (viewable only by appointment via email at info@fiorellagallery.com) from April 9 for one week in the home-atelier of Fiorella Mancini in Campo Santo Stefano. A tribute to an unforgettable Venetian artist and designer, whose shop—a temple of the surreal, gothic, pop, and rock—saw illustrious clients from Elton John and Sting to Damien Hirst.

A Dress For Venice. When a precious past meets a green future
Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua and Venezia da Vivere, in collaboration with Homo Faber in Città, present A Dress for Venice, an exhibition of artworks blending craftsmanship, sustainability, and haute couture designed by eco-designer Tiziano Guardini with illustrations by Luigi R. Ciuffeda.
The exhibition takes place from April 11 to 29, 2022 at Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua and can be visited free of charge on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 3:30 PM or 4:30 PM by booking at the following link: https://bit.ly/ADressForVenice.

Tintoretto at the Cinema
On April 11, 12, and 13, 2022, the biographical documentary Tintoretto: The Artist Who Killed Painting will be released in Italian cinemas. It is an international co-production directed by Erminio Perocco with music by Carlo Raiteri and Teho Teardo. The film will be screened at Cinema Candiani (Mestre), Giorgione, and will have a preview on Friday, April 8 at 9 PM at the Rossini in Venice in the presence of the director.

Anish Kapoor in Venice
A close link between Palazzo Manfrin, the new headquarters for the Anish Kapoor Foundation, and the Gallerie dell’Accademia, which together present a double solo exhibition by the British artist. The exhibition is curated by Taco Dibbits and is open to the public from April 20 to October 9, 2022.
A new sign of the Gallerie dell’Accademia’s relationship with the contemporary is the new touch of style and glam provided by Maison Dior, which designed, created, and produced the uniforms for the security staff.
Joseph Beuys returns to Venice
Finamente Articolato is the exhibition at Palazzo Cini dedicated to Joseph Beuys, one of the most important artists of the 20th century. The exhibition, celebrating the centenary of the artist’s birth, is open to the public from April 20 to October 2, 2022 (excluding Tuesdays).
Curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, director of the Institute of Art History of the Giorgio Cini Foundation, and realized in collaboration with the Thaddaeus Ropac gallery, the exhibition takes its name from the main work on display: Back support of a finely articulated human being (hare-type) from the 20th century AD.
Mary Weatherford: The Flaying of Marsyas
From April 20, the Palazzo Grimani Museum inaugurates the exhibition, on display until November 27, 2022, according to the project by architect and designer Kulapat Yantrasast, of new works by Mary Weatherford inspired by The Punishment of Marsyas, Titian’s masterpiece from 1570-76, preserved in the Archiepiscopal Museum of Kroměříž in the Czech Republic.
Palazzo Diedo opens for contemporary art
The new space for art at Palazzo Diedo belongs to Nicolas Berggruen, a collector and philanthropist of French origin and owner of the Casa dei Tre Oci (where the exhibition dedicated to the great photographer Sabine Weiss is underway until October 23, 2022). It will inaugurate during the Art Biennale vernissage with a site-specific project by artist Sterling Ruby.
The Venetian Lagoon hosts art
During the Art Biennale 2022, the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation directed by Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo opens “a space for artistic projects and site-specific installations, for theater, music, cinema, architecture, research, study, and performance” on the island of San Giacomo, with a solo exhibition by the young Brazilian artist Jota Mombaça, curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist.
Discovering the brain
Neurobiology and philosophy, language and artificial intelligence, psychology and robotics: these are some aspects of brain research supported by the Prada Foundation in a multidisciplinary journey between art and science. The result is the exhibition Human Brains curated by Udo Kittelmann, which will inaugurate during the Art Biennale preview at the maison’s Venetian headquarters at Ca’ Corner della Regina.
Venetian Monet
More than a hundred years have passed since the first and only visit of the French painter Claude Monet to Venice, during which the Master of Impressionism created an extraordinary series of paintings of the city. The work Le Grand Canal et Santa Maria della Salute will return to Venice from April 20 in an exhibition at Palazzo Gritti.
Roots in an independent aesthetic
As a tribute to the French-Moroccan photographer and video artist Leila Alaoui, brutally killed in 2016 in the terrorist attacks in Ouagadougou, the Fondaco dei Tedeschi, in collaboration with Galleria Continua and the Leila Alaoui Foundation, presents from April 20 to November 27, 2022, the two-part installation Leila Alaoui. Storie invisibili/Unseen stories.
Totem at Fondaco Marcello
From April 20, the exhibition Totem by Wallace Chan, the Chinese artist and pioneer in the use of titanium for large-scale sculptures, will open at Fondaco Marcello. The exhibition consists of an installation of multiple elements: part of a single titanium sculpture titled A Dialogue Between Materials and Time, Titans XIV, originally 10 m long, which will be disassembled and placed on the floor of the space facing the Grand Canal.
Art to remember
Among the new entries of independent art centers in Venice is the former Squero Fassi, also known as Squero Vecio: it is the Spazio Berlendis, born from an ancient nautical carpentry shop located opposite the side facade of the San Giovanni e Paolo hospital.
A hub envisioned by Matilde Cadenti and Emanuela Fadalti which, during the Venice Biennale (from April 20, 2022), hosts the Gwangju Biennale Foundation with the exhibition To where the flowers are blooming in celebration of the May 18 Democratization Movement: the 40th anniversary of the massacre that took place in Gwangju, the city that led the democratization of Korea.
On the island of San Giorgio
Curated by Christophe Leribault, in collaboration with the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, with the support of Galerie Templon and as part of the Collateral Events of the 59th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, the exhibition Kehinde Wiley: An Archaeology of Silence inaugurates on April 21, 2022 in the Sale del Convitto on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.
Art on fire
Yves Klein, Alberto Burri, Arman, Jannis Kounellis, Pier Paolo Calzolari, and Claudio Parmiggiani are the great names present in the Sala Carnelutti and the Piccolo Teatro on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, from April 22 to July 24, 2022.
On Fire is the exhibition curated by Bruno Corà in collaboration with Luca Massimo Barbero, promoted by the Giorgio Cini Foundation and Tornabuoni Art. The theme, as the title suggests, is fire and its use as a tool for artistic creation, specifically during the post-WWII avant-garde.
150 years of sculpture in the Republic of Venice
From Donatello to Alessandro Vittoria: sculptural works ranging from 1450 to 1600 displayed in an exhibition that inaugurates on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti at Ca’ d’Oro.
Panorama: the widespread exhibition
On Thursday, April 21 at 5 PM at the Abbey of San Giorgio Maggiore on the island of San Giorgio in Venice, the new edition of PANORAMA will be presented. This widespread exhibition is promoted by the ITALICS consortium—now in its second edition—with curator Vincenzo de Bellis.

On the Neverland island…
PETER PAN. La nécessité du rêve is the contemporary art exhibition that will inaugurate on April 23, 2022 at Palazzo Bonvicini in Calle Agnello. Curated by Francesca Giubilei and Luca Berta of the Venice Art Factory, the exhibition features Stephanie Blake Aune, Didier Guillon, Silvano Rubino, Llorens Ishikawa and special guest Gayle Chong Kwan.
Brunch in the bookstore
The Turin-based studio Frank&Frank, which creates leather and laser-engraved maps of cities around the world, has organized a brunch on Sunday, April 24 (at 11 AM) in the SpazioEventi: a totally new concept space within the operational warehouse of the historic bookstore La Toletta, to present its series dedicated to Venice.
An event in line with those dedicated to craftsmanship and design with Homo Faber, where the design process is characterized by the profound union between manual artistic creation and technological innovation.

Archèus. Labirinto Mozart is an installation by Damiano Michieletto presented by La Biennale di Venezia together with ASAC and in collaboration with the Teatro La Fenice, visitable free of charge and by reservation until June 5 at Forte Marghera.
Kiefer at the Doge’s Palace
“These writings, when burned, will finally cast a little light” is the title of the exhibition by Anselm Kiefer: a spectacular cycle of paintings created specifically by the artist in the Sala dello Scrutinio at the Doge’s Palace, visitable until October 29, 2022.
Marlene Dumas at Palazzo Grassi
At Palazzo Grassi is Open-End, the monographic exhibition of South African artist Marlene Dumas, open to the public until January 8, 2023. An intense exhibition curated by Caroline Bourgeois and the artist herself, featuring more than 100 works including paintings and drawings, some previously unreleased, spanning the artist’s career from 1984 to the present.
The Spring of Glass
85 of the most exceptional pieces from the production of FontanaArte on display at Le Stanze del Vetro on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. Recently inaugurated (April 4, 2022), FontanaArte. Vivere nel vetro is the exhibition curated by Christian Larsen, featuring four of the great artistic directors who made the history of the Milanese company and Made in Italy design: Gio Ponti (1932-1933), Pietro Chiesa (1933-1948), Max Ingrand (1954-1967), and Gae Aulenti (1979-1996).
Exhibition extended at Scala Contarini del Bovolo
Invisible Passages is the exhibition by Chinese artist Cen Long at the Scala Contarini del Bovolo in Venice, extended until April 14. For Friday, April 8, 2022, at 5:30 PM, a meeting is scheduled titled: Hope and Love in the Invisible Passages of Artist Cen Long with the curator, Metra Lin.
Nauman at Punta della Dogana
