Venice<\/strong> has been the city of high craftsmanship<\/strong>, precious products and style for over a millennium. At the center of the trade routes between East and West, a source of inspiration for fashion trends over the centuries, it launched printing, lace, perfume<\/strong>, weaving<\/strong> techniques, diamond<\/strong> cutting and other wonders, the living art<\/strong> that can be seen and touched still today in the Venetian artisan shops<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Acqua Granda does not scare us<\/strong>.
\nVenice has always lived in close contact with water. Water is a friend, source and a mean of connection, and the phenomenon of high tide<\/strong> occurs almost every winter. On 12 November 2019<\/strong>, the high tide was higher than average, and Venice was severely damaged.<\/p>\n

What impressed us was the speed with which the city rose again, organized and recovered: Venetians never stopped, and the shops returned to activity in a few days<\/strong>, without any sign of self-pity. What moved was the great solidarity of people from all over Italy to support the city<\/strong>: thousands of young people who spontaneously made themselves available to clean, wash, move, and the many initiatives that have sprung up everywhere to raise funds for the restoration of monuments, museums and shops.<\/p>\n

Venezia da vivere<\/strong> organizes the Venice Fashion Week<\/strong><\/a>, a week dedicated to slow fashion and high craftsmanship<\/strong>. For years one of our focus has been on the research of the excellences in fashion and craftsmanship in Venice.<\/p>\n

We have been able to select tailors, craft shops, innovative boutiques, ateliers and concept stores<\/strong> and we now present our first list of the artisans and creatives of the city<\/strong>. Like all Venetians, they have been the true saviors of Venice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sotoportego de Rialto – the new shopping street in Venice<\/h3>\n

The arcades of Rialto have now become a sophisticated shopping street in Venice: boutiques, artisans and ateliers<\/strong> have come together to give a new soul to the area. Since the Middle Ages it has been the luxury street of Venice, and now it has become a cultural and creative shopping experience: jewelry, fashion, design and crafts are now sold in the ancient goldsmith street.<\/p>\n

The origin of the name, Sotoportego dei Oresi<\/strong>, derives from the presence of numerous goldsmith shops which could already be found in some documents dated 1015. In March 1331 a Major Council legislation was approved which obliged the Oresi to trade, work and sell gold exclusively in the Insula di Rialto. However even after this restriction was revoked, gold and precious goods kept being sold almost exclusively in Rialto.<\/p>\n

The frescoes in Ruga degli Oresi tell the great work of important artists such as Giorgione, Tiziano, Tintoretto, Veronese, who made Venice the painted city<\/em>. Each shop, each craftsman, had their \u2018crociera\u2019 above the shop painted, giving luster to the building and keeping it in optimal conditions.<\/p>\n

In the premises of an ex-biscuit factory of the 1920s, creations take shape, on a journey through centuries of fashion trends, from period costumes to contemporary collections, drawing on the creativity of the costume designer, the designer’s innovation, the competence of the tailor.<\/p>\n

Banco Lotto 10 – ethical fashion<\/h3>\n

Rehabilitation and reintegration are the primary objectives of the Il Cerchio Onlus Cooperative<\/a><\/strong> which in 2003 established Banco Lotto n.10<\/strong>, the tailoring workshop of the Women’s Reclusion House on the Giudecca Island in Venice.<\/p>\n

Hand-cut and finished with extreme precision, the clothes and accessories take inspiration from the fashion of the fifties and are made with high quality materials including Rubelli fabrics and with a choice of fresh colors to give a feeling of lightness.<\/p>\n

Marisa Convento, Impiraressa<\/strong>, creates artistic ornaments to be worn, for the home and fashion accessories in Venetian glass beads (the smallest among the Venetian glass beads) and precious and rare Murano Glass beads. Marisa is one of the rare custodians of the Venetian art of the impiraresse, a traditional craft of Murano and Venetian women.<\/p>\n
