For #RiscrivereilFuturo, Lorenza Lain of Hotel Ca\u2019 Sagredo and the Venice Hoteliers Association imagines a Venice that is open to the world but selective in its choices, rich with citizens and guests who live, breathe, and respect the city.<\/h2>\n

Vdv: How do you imagine Venice in the future?<\/em><\/p>\n

In the future, I imagine it as it was in the recent past of the ’80s and ’90s, with less day-trip tourism and more “guests”<\/strong> who stay in hotels and live, breathe, and respect the city (without consuming it). A city where many people can return to live as Venetian residents. <\/p>\n

Vdv: What can politics and citizens do for a rebirth of Venice? <\/em><\/p>\n

Rather than a rebirth, I would call it a transformation: politics must provide a direction toward a city open to the world but selective in its choices<\/strong>, and citizens must continue to be “Venetian”\u2014tenacious, positive, and supportive.<\/p>\n

Vdv: Propose a specific idea in at least one of these areas: environment, housing, work, culture, security, tourism.<\/em><\/p>\n

Strengthening the Department of Tourism and Culture, a department that must have a broad capacity to engage with local, regional, and national institutions, and dialogue with international key players<\/strong>. Furthermore, the Councilor for Tourism should be supported by a technical committee representing the city’s most important sectors, collaborating with those who coordinate events and manifestations from a strategic perspective. <\/p>\n

For the project #RiscrivereilFuturo di Venezia<\/strong><\/a>, Venezia da Vivere and the Associazione Piazza San Marco<\/a> interviewed entrepreneurs, curators, directors of cultural institutions, university rectors and professors, hoteliers, event organizers, and citizens who live and work in Venice. An open debate<\/strong> with the community to foster an idea of a city in balance with the environment, work, and its civitas.<\/p>\n
