Autumn in Venice: the events calendar on culture, art, photography, tradition, and architecture, waiting for the Venice Cocktail Week<\/h3>\n

The events of the 14th edition of Incroci di Civilt\u00e0, the International Festival of Literature in Venice have begun and will continue until 6th November 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, New Yorker writer Nicole Krauss<\/strong> presented the programme of the Festival<\/a>, created and organised by Ca’ Foscari University Venice in collaboration with the Venice Foundation, the Venice City Council and the partnership with Francesca Bortolotto Possati, Eni, Fondazione Musei Civici and Marsilio.<\/p>\n

A special event on Sunday 7 November at 11.30 am<\/strong> at the Giorgio Cini Foundation, in the Lo Squero Auditorium a conversation on Maurizio Scaparro and the invention of the Venetian Carnival by Maria Ida Biggi<\/strong> and Piermario Vescovo<\/strong>, with the participation of Roberto Bianchin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Incroci di Civilt\u00e0 is a free admission event, online reservation required at www.incrocidicivilta.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The European Cultural Centre and their initiatives in Venice<\/h3>\n

For one day only, on 4 November from 3 p.m<\/strong>., in Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo, the European Cultural Centre<\/a> presents Got Umbrella<\/strong>. A show open to all who wish to take up the challenge of creating a pluralistic common ground, visualised by one or more people at the same time, playing different roles and wearing different masks to bring out different social constellations.<\/p>\n

On 8 and 9 November, Palazzo Michiel<\/a> is offering a workshop for students and glass art lovers. As part of the Time Space Existence<\/strong> exhibition at Giardini della Marinaressa: The First Circle of Paradise by Bj\u00f8rn\u00e5dal Arkitektstudio, Hans-Petter Bj\u00f8rn\u00e5da<\/strong>l is organising a workshop on glass engraving for the Venice and Norwegian Lofoten Islands students, in collaboration with Bod\u00f8 – European Capital of Culture 2024 – and glass artist Geir Morten Karlsen<\/strong> of Glassforum<\/a>. The glass spheres created during the workshop will become part of the installation at the Giardini della Marinaressa.<\/p>\n

On 15 and 16 November, also at Palazzo Michiel, a symposium is scheduled from 2 pm to 7 pm on the theme of housing typologies and the notion of architectural crisis in three different urban contexts: London, Santiago and Shanghai.<\/strong> A comparison to understand how market dynamics have taken over housing production. Opening on November 5<\/strong>, the photo exhibition Within by Arno Rafael Minkkinen<\/strong> at laToletta SpazioEventi<\/a> in Fondamenta de Borgo 1134 near La Toletta bookshop.<\/p>\n

The exhibition, open to the public until 7 January 2022, is organised in collaboration with Barry Friedman Ltd. of New York and brings together 20 original photographs by the celebrated Finnish American photographer, selected by the space’s artistic director Michele Alassio<\/strong>, a Venetian photographer.<\/p>\n

Brunch in the Lagoon<\/h3>\n

First appointment on Sunday 7 November 2021 at 12:30 pm at the San Giorgio Caf\u00e9<\/a>, part of the cultural offer of the Island of San Giorgio, for a brunch with typical Venetian flavours<\/strong>: fresh fish from the fisherman Andrea Rossi, vegetables from Sant’Erasmo and a selection of wines from the Veneto region. Star of the menu: ‘moeche<\/strong>‘, the shell-less crab of the Venetian lagoon, caught by the Bognolo<\/a> family, the last of the Venetian ‘moecanti’. This is a rare opportunity to taste a crustacean that only two times a year, in spring and autumn, does not molt; it has a sweet flavour associated with the taste of seaweed and the sea.<\/p>\n

Geologie Incerte \u00a0(Uncertain Geologies)<\/h3>\n

Venice Art Factory<\/a>, in collaboration with Contemporis ETS<\/strong>, opens on November 7 (until December 30, 2021), Geologie Incerte the solo exhibition of the artist Stefano Cescon.<\/strong> The exhibition is set up at SPUMA – Space for The Arts<\/strong> in Fondamenta San Biagio in a former brewery, functioning until the 1970s, on the island of Giudecca. It is a space that hosts contemporary art and design projects throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Visits are from Thursday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and by appointment at info@contemporis.org<\/a> on other days.<\/p>\n

Venetian Way by Susanna Pozzoli<\/h3>\n

Preview presentation of the book Venetian Way<\/em> by Susanna Pozzoli<\/strong>, Marsilio Editori<\/a>, on 8 November 2021 at 5.30 pm in the Sala degli Arazzi of the Giorgio Cini Foundation. A project by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship on the Venetian and Veneto craft heritage. A tribute to Venice and its productive enterprises told in a book as a testimony and exhibition document.<\/p>\n

Participating with the author: Emanuela Bassetti, Alberto Cavalli, Renata Codello, Federica Muzzarelli and Toto Bergamo Rossi<\/strong>, director of the Venetian Heritage Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Luigi Nono at the Giudecca<\/h3>\n

Fourth edition of the Festival Luigi Nono<\/a> at the Giudecca, which for the whole month of November will celebrate the great Venetian composer Luigi Nono<\/strong>. An interdisciplinary project, to be listened to and watched, for an extraordinary experience: music, dance, photographic exhibitions, projections of audiovisual documentation, meetings with students, readings and a round table that offer an immersive approach to the historical and social knowledge of Luigi Nono at Giudecca from the 1950s to the present day.<\/p>\n

Gillo Dorfles \u201cGhiribizzi\u201d<\/h3>\n

Opening on 12 November 2021 is the exhibition (until 31 January 2022) at the Cini Foundation<\/a> curated by Aldo Colonetti and Luigi Sansone<\/strong>, a collection of twenty drawings made by Gillo Dorfles a few months before his death. Also on display are two works by Alberto Magno<\/strong>: the painting Vitriol<\/em> from the acronym of the Latin sentence Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem and the drawing with the Latin saying Si ova struthionis sol excubare valet cur veri solis ope Virgo non generaret?<\/em> i.e. “If the sun is able to make the ostrich’s eggs hatch, why could the Virgin not have conceived by the true sun?”<\/p>\n

\n \n \"Feast-of-the-Madonna-della-Salute\" <\/a>\n \n \"\" <\/a>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On Madonna della Salute Day<\/h3>\n

For almost four centuries, every year on 21 November<\/strong>, the Madonna della Salute<\/strong> has been celebrated in the splendid church designed by Baldassarre Longhena<\/strong>. It is a festivity much loved by Venetians and pilgrims from all over the world. A typical traditional dish is the ‘castradina<\/strong>‘: an ancient dish of salted and smoked mutton used for a soup seasoned with savoy cabbage, onions, and wine.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the Venetian paintings of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the Gallerie dell’Accademia<\/a>, will remain open until late evening on Sunday 21 November 2021. (Last entry will be at 10:15 pm).<\/p>\n

On this day in Venice two great events will be launched and two are closing. Let’s have a look at them together:<\/p>\n

Venini at Le stanze del vetro<\/h3>\n

Tapio Wirkkala and Toni Zuccheri at Venini is the double autumn exhibition of Le stanze del vetro<\/a>, curated by Marino Barovier<\/strong>, opening on 21 November (until 13 March 2022). A tribute to the production of the 1960s by Venini<\/a>, the historic Murano glass company, and to two of its great artists and designers with distinct personalities, who marked and characterized the glassworks’ offerings with new essential and colorful models.<\/p>\n

Venice Architecture Biennale<\/h3>\n

If you haven’t had time to see the 17th. International Architecture Exhibition<\/a> in Venice by Hashim Sarkis<\/strong> yet and to visit the winning pavilion of the Golden Lions 2021 at the UAE Arsenal, you have until Sunday 21 November 2021.<\/p>\n

Then, the great system will take a “break” to reopen in 2022 (from 23 April to 27 November) with the 59th Art Biennale led for the first time by an Italian woman: Milanese curator Cecilia Alemani<\/strong>, Chief Curator of High Line Art<\/a> in New York.<\/p>\n

\n \n \"\" <\/a>\n \n \"\" <\/a>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Islamic scripture<\/h3>\n

The Cini Foundation, in collaboration with Ca’ Foscari University Venice, targeting both students on the “Arabic Language and Literature” course at Ca’ Foscari University and all visual arts lovers, has organised a seminar, including workshops and performances, on the beauty and complexity of Islamic calligraphy. The event is the 2nd<\/sup> of December. Andrea Brigaglia<\/strong> (University of Naples l’Orientale) will provide the historical and theoretical framework of calligraphy in the Islamic world, with a particular focus on the production of manuscripts. The workshop will be led by the Italian Jordanian artist Eyas Alshayeb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Venice Cocktail Week<\/h3>\n

From 13 to 19 December comes for the first time in Venice the Cocktail Week, founded in London in 2008 and brought to Italy by Paola Mencarelli<\/strong> with the format of Florence Cocktail Week<\/a>. Seven intense days of meetings and sharing in the 26 best cocktail bars in Venice, master classes and night shifts with internationally renowned guests. An opportunity to discover new flavours and Venetian venues, from a different point of view away from the more traditional one we have been used to until now. Soon the whole program will be online.<\/p>\n
