{"id":43317,"date":"2024-09-26T14:51:48","date_gmt":"2024-09-26T12:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.veneziadavivere.com\/biennale-musica-2024-absolute-music\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T12:17:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T11:17:38","slug":"biennale-musica-2024-absolute-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.veneziadavivere.com\/en\/biennale-musica-2024-absolute-music\/","title":{"rendered":"Biennale Musica 2024: Absolute Music"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\" id=\"wpb-content-root\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<a href=\"https:\/\/www.veneziadavivere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/ET_ET-Ensemble-ph.-Guillaume-Musset.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-33291 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.veneziadavivere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/ET_ET-Ensemble-ph.-Guillaume-Musset-e1727356261694.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1267\" height=\"787\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Biennale Musica 2024 transforms Venice into the center of absolute music<\/h2>\n<p>Absolute music, pure sounds, acoustic architectures: <strong>Biennale Musica 2024<\/strong> celebrates the essence of music in its most authentic form. <strong>From September 26 to October 11<\/strong>, Venice becomes the sound laboratory where innovative composers and performers present scores, codes, and performances without extra-musical or visual references. <\/p>\n<h3>Ten sections, international composers, and young talents explore the autonomous language of contemporary music from September 26 to October 11<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Lucia Ronchetti<\/strong>, artistic director of the Music Department, introduces the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.labiennale.org\/it\/musica\/2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">68th International Festival of Contemporary Music<\/a> as a journey into the autonomous language of music.<\/p>\n<p>Ten sections outline a complex and fascinating panorama of today&#8217;s musical thought with <strong><em>Polyphonies<\/em><\/strong>, which immerses us in monumental acoustic architectures of compositions for orchestra and electronic processing by <strong>Rebecca Saunders<\/strong>, <strong>Unsuk Chin<\/strong>, <strong>Beat Furrer<\/strong>, <strong>Luca Francesconi <\/strong>and <strong>Salvatore Sciarrino<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In <em><strong>Assolo<\/strong><\/em>, writing for solo instruments becomes a complete expression of the aesthetics of composers such as <strong>George Benjamin<\/strong> and <strong>Michael Pisaro-Liu<\/strong>, highlighting refined virtuosity.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Listening\/Hearing<\/em><\/strong> transforms the Sala d&#8217;Armi E of the Arsenale into an installation space for individual listening to twelve composers, including <strong>Iannis Xenakis<\/strong>, <strong>Alvin Curran<\/strong>, and <strong>John Zorn<\/strong>, curated by sound engineer <strong>Thierry Coduys<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Sound Structures<\/em><\/strong> explores the physical nature of sound through immersive compositions by <strong>G\u00e9rard Grisey<\/strong>, <strong>Wolfgang Rihm<\/strong>, <strong>Lisa Streich<\/strong>, and others.<\/p>\n<p>Jazz improvisation finds its place in <strong><em>Absolute Jazz<\/em><\/strong> with soloists such as <strong>Tyshawn Sorey<\/strong> and <strong>Peter Evans<\/strong>, who use jazz language as a basis for their sound research.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Counterpoints<\/em><\/strong> presents elaborate contrapuntal mechanisms with <strong>Galina Ustvolskaya<\/strong>, <strong>Kaija Saariaho<\/strong>, and <strong>David Lang<\/strong>, while <strong><em>Pure Voices<\/em><\/strong> leads us into ecstatic and meditative experiences with the vocal music of <strong>Arvo P\u00e4rt<\/strong> and <strong>Just\u0117 Janulyt\u0117<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For fans of experimental electronics, <em><strong>Solo Electronics<\/strong><\/em> offers concerts with <strong>Tim Hecker<\/strong>, <strong>Richard Devine<\/strong>, and <strong>Robert Machiri<\/strong> in Pavilion 30 of Forte Marghera.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Musica Reservata<\/em><\/strong> highlights research works for solo instruments or small ensembles featuring composers <strong>Golfam Khayam<\/strong>, <strong>Isabel Mundry<\/strong>, and <strong>Eva Reiter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A theoretical space with <em><strong>Ricercare <\/strong><\/em>features Festival artists reflecting on various aspects of their work through round tables, lectures, and meetings, including four <em>Lezioni di musica<\/em> with <strong>Giovanni Bietti<\/strong> live and broadcast on Rai Radio3.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rebecca Saunders<\/strong> is the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement of this edition: recognized for the intimate poetry of her sound architectures. Her works <strong><em>Wound<\/em><\/strong> and <em><strong>Skull<\/strong><\/em> will be performed at Teatro La Fenice and Teatro Piccolo Arsenale, respectively.
