In May, Venice celebrates the Festa della Sensa<\/strong> and the Vogalonga<\/strong>, events that connect the city’s history and sporting tradition and anticipate the Salone Nautico<\/strong>, the fifth edition of the boat show and technological innovation festival for the maritime world at the Arsenale, as always with a focus on sustainability.<\/p>\n

Homage to Luigi Nono: a special concert in Marghera
\nFriday, May 3, 2024, at 6:30 PM<\/h3>\n

The evocative Capannone del Petrolchimico di Marghera<\/strong>, a symbol of the industrial and working-class heritage that inspired many of Nono’s works, is the stage for a tribute to the Venetian composer Luigi Nono<\/strong> on the centenary of his birth.<\/p>\n

The concert, organized by the City of Venice, will feature the Choir and Brass of the Teatro La Fenice<\/strong>, under the direction of Alfonso Caiani<\/strong> and with Andrea Chinaglia<\/strong> on the piano, for a repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary music, with a selection reflecting Nono’s eclecticism and the great political and social impact of his work.<\/p>\n

La fabbrica illuminata<\/em>, composed in 1964, is dedicated to the workers of Italsider with texts by Giuliano Scabia<\/strong> and a fragment of Due poesie a T.<\/em> by Cesare Pavese<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The conclusion of the concert will be dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi<\/strong>, with the performance of three choral pieces from his operas: Gli arredi festivi gi\u00f9 cadano infranti<\/em> from Nabucco, Patria oppressa<\/em> from Macbeth, and, also from Nabucco, Va, pensiero, sull’ali dorate<\/em>, representing a tribute to the great Italian composer and his deep connection with the history and culture of our country.<\/p>\n

Aguas Negras by Byron Gago at Panorama Venezia

PanoramaVenezia<\/strong><\/a> is a new independent gallery in Campiello San Zulian in San Marco. From May 3 (opening at 7 PM) to June 7, it hosts the exhibition Aguas Negras<\/em><\/strong> by Byron Gago<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Part of the Horizons<\/em> cycle curated by Giovanni Paolin<\/strong>, the exhibition is a visual journey connecting different geographies of the world\u2014from the Amazon to the Alps, to the Mediterranean coasts\u2014in a narrative exploring how landscapes are modified by extraction and exploitation: a critique of power structures through the eye of an artist who has experienced migration. <\/span><\/p>\n

Byron Gago is from Guayaquil and has resided in Italy for several years. BOAT International World Superyacht Awards 2024

The nineteenth edition of the BOAT International World Superyacht Awards<\/strong><\/a> returns to the Arsenale in Venice, in collaboration with Acquera Club<\/strong><\/a> and The Glenrothes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A major international event bringing together superyachts, designers, and shipbuilders to celebrate excellence in luxury yacht design and construction.<\/p>\n

The World Superyacht Awards recognize the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the most extraordinary yachts in the world, with a jury composed of current and former superyacht owners, to highlight the best achievements in the sector and offer a look at current and future trends, consolidating the importance of the annual meeting for professional networking and industry updates.<\/p>\n

Alfabeto Marco Polo: Venice Istanbul
\nPalazzo Mocenigo, from May 7 to 16, 2024<\/h3>\n

The ground floor of the Museo di Palazzo Mocenigo<\/strong> hosts the exhibition titled Alfabeto Marco Polo: Venice Istanbul<\/em><\/a>, designed to celebrate the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo’s death<\/strong> and his role as a cultural ambassador to the East.<\/p>\n

Nadia De Lazzari<\/strong>, president of the Associazione Venezia: Pesce di Pace<\/strong> and curator of the exhibition, involved schools, institutions, and companies with the aim of stimulating interest in history and fostering educational and cultural exchanges among young people from different nations.<\/p>\n

One thousand children from Venice and Istanbul<\/strong>, through reading short stories about Marco Polo and group work, explored themes of history, art, and geography. A modern pedagogical approach inspired by the spirit of exploration of the great Venetian explorer. <\/p>\n

In conjunction with the educational experience, a bilingual book in Italian and Turkish will be presented, enriching the cultural offering of the event and emphasizing the importance of intercultural dialogue.<\/p>\n

URBS SCRIPTA 2024: discovering Venice and Chioggia through the graffiti of the past
\nFrom May 8 to 12, 2024<\/h3>\n

Special visits, conferences, exhibitions, and night tours: the cities of Venice and Chioggia<\/strong> will host the second edition of URBS SCRIPTA<\/a><\/strong>, the festival dedicated to historical graffiti, conceived and curated by the writer Alberto Toso Fei<\/strong> and the historian Desi Marangon<\/strong>, who have dedicated years to researching these silent testimonies of urban history.<\/p>\n

URBS SCRIPTA brings to light over 6,000 pieces of graffiti, from ancient incisions to modern messages, distributed across iconic locations in the two cities, through a series of activities such as special visits, conferences, exhibitions, and night tours<\/strong>, enriching the cultural experience with a multisensory and inclusive approach.<\/p>\n

The festival was born from the collaboration with the City of Venice and the support of the Veneto Region, based on research collected in the volumes I graffiti di Venezia<\/em> and Venice Urbs Scripta<\/em>, authored by the curators, as the basis for this journey to discover a secret reading of the city for a different perspective, valuing the voices of those who, over the centuries, have left their mark.<\/p>\n

Philippe Descola explores “Art before Art” at the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi

The The Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi<\/strong> is transformed into the home of cultural thought thanks to the presence of Philippe Descola<\/strong>, a prominent French anthropologist, for the third stage of the cycle Lo stato dell’arte<\/em>, conceived by Barbara Carnevali<\/strong>, philosopher and Directrice d\u2019\u00e9tudes at the \u00c9cole des Hautes \u00c9tudes en Sciences Sociales<\/a> in Paris.<\/p>\n

The dialogue between Descola and Carnevali will focus on the theme Art before Art<\/em>, where the anthropologist will bring to light the intersections between anthropology, archaeology, and history to redefine our understanding of early human artistic forms.<\/p>\n

Through a reflection that excludes traditional categories and styles, Descola aims to reshape conventional views of art, questioning the division between nature and culture.<\/p>\n

Festa de la Sensa
\nSunday, May 12, 2024<\/h3>\n

Every year, Venice celebrates its connection with the sea through the Festa della Sensa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

An event that originates from the Ascension of Christ and dates back to the 9th century when Venice, under the leadership of Pietro II Orseolo, began to show its support for threatened Dalmatian communities. The rite evolved over time, culminating in the marriage of the sea<\/strong>, a symbol of perpetual Venetian dominion over the Adriatic: the Doge, dressed in ceremonial robes, leads the nautical procession from the Bucintoro, simulating the marriage with the sea<\/strong> by throwing a gold ring into the waves. <\/p>\n

The celebration, organized by the Coordination of Venetian Rowing Associations, features a spectacular procession of traditional rowing boats<\/strong> navigating from St. Mark’s Basin to the Lido of Venice.<\/p>\n

Federica Marangoni ON THE ROAD 1970-2024 at the Glass Museum
\nFrom May 19 to November 24, 2024<\/h3>\n

Federica Marangoni<\/strong> and her dialogue with glass in a retrospective at the Murano Glass Museum<\/strong><\/a>. The exhibition, curated by Chiara Squarcina<\/strong> and the artist herself, offers a journey through the multifaceted artistic career of the Venetian creative and designer, highlighting her deep connection with glass and the island of Murano. <\/p>\n

Federica Marangoni’s career is distinguished by the innovative use of different materials, with a particular preference for glass. After opening Fedra Studio Design<\/strong> in Venice in 1970, she began collaborating regularly with Murano furnaces, creating design objects and sculptures that incorporate technologies such as video and neon light<\/strong>. These elements, combined with the transparency and fragility of glass, have made her works distinctive in the context of contemporary art. <\/p>\n

The interaction between her sculptures and the architecture of the Glass Museum creates an exhibition path that actively dialogues with spaces such as La bricola<\/em>, a light installation on a mirrored floor created in ’71, or those in the museum garden including Continuity<\/em>, a rainbow that has graced the patio of the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid since 2006.<\/p>\n

A retrospective of Marangoni’s contribution to glass art and a testament to how her work has succeeded in crossing the boundaries between art, technology, and communication.<\/p>\n

Atelier Aperti Bleu: discover Venice and its artisans united for the Ocean<\/h3>\n

On Saturday, May 25, starting at 10 AM<\/strong>, the walk through the Atelier Aperti Bleu<\/em> of Venice will take place: a route to discover the city’s artisans and creatives united in their practices by a particular focus on sustainability, the enhancement of the territory, and the protection of the sea and lagoon ecosystems.<\/p>\n

On this day, organized by Venezia da Vivere<\/strong>, a platform that chronicles the cultural fabric of Venice, the Bleu Artisans will open their workshops and studios to share their stories with the public and provide a preview of the Ocean Literacy World Conference<\/strong>. The Salone Nautico 2024 at the Arsenale of Venice
\nFrom May 29 to June 2, 2024<\/h3>\n

The fifth edition of the Venice Salone Nautico<\/strong><\/a> confirms its status as a reference point for enthusiasts and professionals in the nautical sector. The event, curated by Vela Spa<\/strong> and the Italian Navy<\/strong>, features the participation of numerous entities, including the Government and the Veneto Region, and takes advantage of the extraordinary setting of the Arsenale of Venice<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

In 2023, the Boat Show attracted approximately 30,000 visitors from over thirty countries worldwide, hosted 300 boats, 240 of which were displayed in the water, and 220 exhibitors, 180 of whom were Italian, covering a total boat length of 2.7 km. Additionally, there were over 50 cultural and in-depth events, with a particular focus on sustainable technologies and the protection of the marine environment. <\/p>\n

The growing importance of the Boat Show on the international nautical scene consolidates its position as a catalyst for innovation and trends in the sector.<\/p>\n
