The symbol of Christmas 2020 in St. Mark’s Square is a digital tree by artist Fabrizio Plessi.<\/h2>\n

Christmas is approaching. The fir tree decorated with colored lights, an element anticipated every year in St. Mark’s Square, will arrive even in this complex year that has revolutionized our daily lives and common social and family relationships, transforming them into increasingly connected and digital ones. <\/p>\n

The Christmas 2020 tree in Venice is “a tribute to light and a message of rebirth<\/strong>” but also a reflection on this evolution: over 80 modules of golden LED lights, each measuring 1.5 meters, installed like the branches of a tree and extending in different directions, will be illuminated on the evening of December 4 and will be in motion for a splendid tree until Epiphany of next year.<\/p>\n

The project is a work by artist Fabrizio Plessi<\/strong>, an Italian Master and pioneer of video installations, in partnership with Assicurazioni Generali and the Municipality of Venice. An artistic intervention of light and technology that highlights the innovative and creative nature of the city. <\/p>\n

“The idea for this installation arose from my great love for Venice: I imagined a gigantic golden mosaic\u2014recalling the gold of the Basilica\u2014in which each tile lives its own life.”<\/p>\n

“For the first time in my work\u2014declares artist Fabrizio Plessi\u2014I have made the luminous flow of each element go in different directions, creating an interweaving of contaminations as a metaphor, on one hand, for the dynamics of interpersonal relationships and, on the other, to enhance the historical memory of this city, a place of encounter and exchange between different cultures par excellence.”<\/p>\n

“The use of digital in this context becomes spiritual emotion<\/strong> expressed in the only language possible today, allowing us to reach others despite physical distance. An evocative sculpture that demonstrates how, once again, it will be the light of art to show the way<\/strong> to overcome these dark times together.” <\/p>\n

Christmas represents, in the heart of each of us, a value of rebirth, and precisely in a historical moment like the current one, it is comforting to believe in the strength of ideals of hope and growth. The words of Philippe Donnet<\/strong> continue to support Venice and the people who love and experience it, with “a message of confidence and common commitment to recovery, in this space of encounter and exchange par excellence, among the most known and loved in the world.” <\/p>\n

The installation, promoted by the Municipality of Venice and Vela Spa in partnership with Assicurazioni Generali as part of the “Le Citt\u00e0 in Festa \u2013 Natale 2020” program, will be located between the two columns of the Piazzetta from December 4, 2020 to January 6, 2021.<\/p>\n

Finally, in addition to the digital tree, the “Natale di Luce 2020” project in the Marciana Area includes a lighting intervention at the Procuratie Vecchie and Nuove<\/strong>, along the entire Via XXII Marzo to Campo Santa Maria del Giglio and, also by artist Fabrizio Plessi, the installation “The Golden Age<\/a><\/strong>” on the fa\u00e7ade of the Napoleonic Wing of the Correr Museum.<\/p>\n
