Midnight is the highlight, featuring a fireworks display that lights up the night sky and reflects on the lagoon of the St. Mark’s Basin.

To thank Christ for the end of the plague in 1575, the Venetians promised to build the Basilica del Redentore on Giudecca, commissioning Andrea Palladio for the project and establishing a pilgrimage. To allow Venetians to reach the church, a votive pedestrian bridge supported by boats has been constructed ever since.
