Ocean Space, the space dedicated to ocean conservation by TBA-21 Academy, brings the Church of San Lorenzo to life with performances and events<\/h2>\n

After nearly a century of closure, the Church of San Lorenzo<\/strong> is now the venue for international debate on the oceans and sustainability, thanks to the Thyssen-Bornemisza gallery, which created TBA21\u2013Academy<\/strong>, a platform for discussion on ocean issues.<\/p>\n

Friday, May 10, 2019, 9 PM<\/strong><\/p>\n

He is the most emblematic musician connected to nature: J\u00f3nsi of Sigur R\u00f3s<\/b> presents in Venice the album produced by Dark Morph<\/b>, his group with composer Carl Michael von Hausswolff<\/strong>. The album draws inspiration from the sounds of the Pacific and was produced at the Alligator Head Foundation<\/strong>, a scientific partner of TBA-21 Academy. <\/p>\n

Not to be missed is the site-specific musical installation The So(ng)qe\/Tovuto Kyrrahafi\u00f0 Sound Field<\/strong>, open to visitors from May 7 to June 30, 2019.<\/p>\n

Saturday, May 11, 2019, 3\u20134:30 PM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Concluding the “oceanic” program, on Saturday, May 11, from 3 to 4:30 PM<\/strong>, Territorial Agency. Oceans in Transformation \u2013 Overfishing<\/i>, a workshop organized by Territorial Agency<\/strong> to create a network among artists and research groups<\/strong> committed to advancing concrete solutions for the future of the oceans.<\/p>\n

What’s happening at San Lorenzo? <\/b><\/p>\n

With the multimedia performance Moving Off The Land<\/em>, artist, performer, and videomaker Joan Jonas<\/strong>, electronic music composer Ikue Mori<\/strong>, and performer Francesco Miglio<\/strong> on May 7 <\/strong>transformed the Church of San Lorenzo into a dreamlike universe between enchantment and reality, to affirm the importance of marine life.<\/p>\n

Art, science, and Light in the Oceans<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wednesday, May 8, featured <\/strong>artist Olafur Eliasson<\/strong>, creator of the unforgettable Blind Pavilion<\/strong> at the Danish Pavilion of the 2003 Biennale and the light grid on the facade of Palazzo Grassi<\/strong>, in conversation with marine biologist David Gruber<\/strong>, Joan Jonas’s right-hand man in the creation of Moving Off The Land<\/em>, while in the evening scientist Jeremy B.C. Jackson<\/b> presented his theories on the oceanic world in a lecture alongside the performance<\/b> by writer, singer, and sound artist LaTasha Nevada Diggs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Alienation is the antidote to confronting the climate catastrophe<\/strong> according to the xenofeminist collective Laboria Cuboniks<\/strong>, which on May 9 expressed its revolutionary positions on climate change with a lecture-performance by its founders, writer Diann Bauer<\/strong> and University of West London professor Helen Hester<\/strong>. <\/p>\n
