Venezia75: from the Venice Film Festival all the prizes, the films, the red carpet and the stars
The 75th edition of Venice Film Festival is over and Alfonso Cuaron is the winner of the Golden Lion with “ROMA”. Willem Dafoe wins the Coppa Volpi as Best Actor and Olivia Colman the award as Best Actress, for her “Queen Anne” impersonation in “The Favourite”. Two women tales triumph in the year of the low female actresses participation controversy.
The Jury of the Venezia 75 competition awarded the official prizes as following:
The Golden Lion for Best Movie goes to “Roma” by the Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron
The Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize goes to “The Favourite” by Yorgos Lanthinos
The Silver Lion for Best Director goes to Jaques Audiard, for the movie “The Sister Brothers”.
The Coppa Volpi Award for Best Actor goes to Willem Dafoe (At Eternity’s Gate)
The Coppa Volpi Award for Best Actress goes to Olivia Colman (The Favourite)
Award for Best Screenplay goes to Joel and Ethan Coen (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs).
Last but not least, the Special Jury Prize and “Marcello Mastroianni” Award for Best New Young Actor (Bakali Ganmbarr) go to The Nightingale” by Jennifer Kent.
The members of the international Jury of the “Luigi De Laurentiis” Venice Award for a Debut Film – Lion of the Future, awarded another woman: the Syrian director Soudade Kaadan (The day I lost my Shadow)
Orizzonti Award for Best Film goes to “Manta Ray” of the Thai Director Phuttiphong Aroonpheng, Best Director is Emir Baigazin (Ozen – The river); Special Orizzonti Jury Prize goes to “Anons – The announcement” by Mahmut Fazil Coskun.
Orizzonti Award for Best Actor goes to Kais Nashif, (“Tel Aviv on Fire”) and for the Best Actress goes to Natalya Kudryashova (The man who surprised everyone). The Award for Best Screenplay goes to Pema Tseden (“Jinpa”) and best Short Film is “Kado” by Aditya Ahmad.
“C’est ça l’amour” by Claire Burger is the winner of the collateral section “Le Giornate degli Autori”. “Werk Ohne Autor” by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck and “Capri-Revolution” by the italian Mario Martone win some other collateral Awards.
We want to especially highlight the award to best original track to “Suspirium” by Thom Yorke, leader and frontman of the band Radiohead (Soundtrack Stars Awards). The original soundtrack of the movie will be available October 28, right after the upcoming Venice Fashion Week.
Some collateral awards involved the city of Venice: the jury of “La Pellicola d’Oro” Award, gave a Career Award to Atelier Nicolao run by tailor Stefano Nicolao “for his artistic and handicraft production”. The Venetian Cinema Glass Lion Award, instead, eas given to the venetian actress Maria Roveran.
The experience of Venezia75 will be unforgettable for Venezia da Vivere’s team. This year our photographers and movie-lovers attended the festival at different levels: movies, parties, photography and fashion. And while official juries choose the winners, we created our own top chart.
The most elegant and charming woman was, according to our Instagrammers, the actress Cate Blanchett, dressed by Armani Privé. On the podium there are also Natalie Portman and Tilda Swinton. The Brazilian Top Model Izabel Goulard is, instead, the most sexy woman on the red carpet. It was really difficult to choose the most sexy woman because, this year, the trend was sobriety, sometimes using vintage outfits.
Most elegant men were Willem Dafoe and Ryan Gosling, who dressed an amazing white jacket by Gucci. The most sexy man was instead the Italian actor Alessandro Gassman. He was considered by our instagrammers sexier than American star Bradley Cooper, as well as the Italian Leonardo Sbaraglia.
A special mention goes to Vahid Rad, iranian actor featured in the movie As I lay Dying.
According to “Ciak”, the best movies in the official competition are, for Italian and international critics, “ROMA” of Alfonso Cuaron, “Doubles Vies” of Olivier Assayas , “The Sisters Brothers” of Jacques Audiard and “The Favourite” of Yorgos Lanthimos. For the audience best movies are “Werk Ohne Author” of Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, “The Sisters Brothers” of Jacques Audiard , “Roma” of Cuarón and “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” of Coen Bros.
VDV’s instagramers opinions are halfway from the votes by the critics and the public . Best movies for VDV’s instagramers are “Roma” by Alfonso Cuaron, “Werk Ohne Author” by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck and “The Favourite” by Yorgos Lanthimos. Best Movies in Orizzonti section were “Tel Aviv on fire” by Sameh Zohari, “La noche de 12 años” by Álvaro Brechner, “Hamchenan ke mimordam (As I lay dying)” by Mostafa Sayyari and “Sulla mia pelle (under my skin) by Alessio Cremonini. In other sections of the festival we were moved by “A star is Born” by Bradley Cooper (out of conpetition), “Il Banchiere Anarchico” by Giulio Base (Sconfini) and “The other side of the wind” by Orson Welles (special screening).
Until the end of the festival, our instagramers worked like a close-knit team, attending all the most important events, allowing themselves little breaks together in order to share their experiences and to organise the rest of the day.
Next appointment in their calendar is the Venice Fashion Week, taking place in Venice from October 18 to 27. But this is another VDV’s story. Stay Tuned!
