The modern Dandy of Tabarrificio Veneto: Cloaks by Sandro Zara

The cloaks by Sandro Zara, creator of Tabarrificio Veneto, will walk the catwalk for Venice Fashion Week at the Splendid Venice Hotel.

Wearing a cloak means diving in another era, wrapped in a tailor-made garment of great charm. For Venice Fashion Week, Tuesday, October 23rd, the Hotel Splendid Venice will organize an event dedicated to the modern Dandy with a fashion show of Tabarrificio Veneto; a cloak collection designed by the mastery of Sandro Zara.

That of Sandro is the story of a long tradition born from the recovery of the lagoon traditions and a passion for the history of costumes.

The cloak: a symbol of elegance

The cloak (tabarro) appeared for the first time in the fourteenth century and then it went through a few changes over the centuries. Long and dark surpluses and a shorter coat of various colours characterised the cloak from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century; then since the end of the French Revolution it has been produced in its original black colour assuming, more recently, connotations of severe simplicity that have been kept until today.

If in the twentieth century it became a symbol of elegance and sophistication, while after World War II it fell into disuse being replaced by the coat.

Sandro Zara was responsible for the re-discovery of the cloak during the 1960s. Visionary and obstinate he began the production of cloaks in 1974 moved by a profound respect for the things of the past and by his passion for textiles and precious materials.

Thanks to Sandro Zara the cloak became trendy again and the Tabarrificio Veneto, the first in Italy, was born; here all the secrets for the garment are kept, the result of years of study and research. In this place the cloaks are designed, cut and sewn one by one by skilled artisans and tailors.

Each garment is made with high quality Italian natural fabrics and the use of traditional production techniques, to protect the authenticity of the cloaks. The Tabarrificio Veneto numbers progressively every single cloak and marks it with its own names. Brigantino, Nobilomo, Lustrissimo, Ruzzante, Ca ‘D’oro, Hepburn, are just some of the models offered for men and women, whose names come from the methods and places where the prototypes were found.
