Three events dedicated to photography this spring in Venice

In Venice, three unmissable events for those who love photography

Christian Dior in Venice will be revealed through a photo exhibition, the treasures of the Cameraphoto archive will be on display; a photographic aperitif will allow you to discover Letizia Battaglia’s work and on an island, stars and international masters of contemporary photography, will be part of a rich festival of workshops and conferences dedicated to photographers and instagramers.

Here are the photographic events in April 2019

Until 3rd November 2019 | Intramontabili Eleganze-Timeless Elegance, Dior in Venice, Cameraphoto archive | Villa Pisani in Stra.

The photographic exhibition Intramontabili Eleganze- Timeless Elegance – from 12th April to 3rd November 2019 at Villa Pisani in Stra – tells about the Gran Gala “Ballo del Secolo” through 40 images. On 3rd September 1951 Don Carlos de Beistegui y de Yturbe organized a Grand Gala party in Venice at Palazzo Labia, inviting a thousand high-society protagonists and commissioning designers of the calibre of Dior, Dalì, Pierre Cardin and Nina Ricci to create the dresses for the event.

Through the photographs of the Cameraphoto archive the exhibition Intramontabili Eleganze presents to the public the collection created by Christian Dior for the grand gala at Palazzo Labia.

The exhibition, curated by Vittorio Pavan and Luca Prete and wanted by Pavan and the Director of the Veneto Museums Polo Daniele Ferrara, affirms the value of the Cameraphoto Archive, whose historical section boasts over 300 thousand negatives.

18 April | Photo aperitif for Letizia Battaglia’s exhibition at Casa dei Tre Oci.

If you want to enjoy a photographic exhibition sipping a cocktail, the perfect occasion is April 18 at the Casa dei Tre Oci with the Photo Aperitif with the Nardini Distillery and the exhibition of the 300 photographs by Palermo Letizia Battaglia.

Made famous mainly by her photographs of the mafia, the photographer has dedicated her life to the story of the daily events in the city of Palermo, of its traditions and of the women and children who live there. Her photographs are important testimonies of the years of the mafia crimes and of the activities of the Corleonesi clan in Sicily.

The photographic aperitif is on Thursday 18th April, from 6 to 8 pm.

From 25th April to 4th May | Venice Photo | Island of San Servolo

From 25th April to 4th May the island of San Servolo hosts the second edition of the Venice Photo festival with events, exhibitions, conferences and workshops dedicated to contemporary photography.

The big names of national and international contemporary photography gather on the island in front of San Marco for a program of 24 workshops over 4 days. The masters of photography this year are: Ann Ray, Eric Bouvet, Erwin Olaf and Albert Watson.

The program also includes conferences open to the public: Yann Arthus-Bertrand will retrace his career and will preview some clips from the forthcoming film Woman, co-directed with Anastasia Mikova.

On Wednesday 1st May at 6.30 pm we will meet Paolo Roversi, author of fashion photographs and photojournalist.
