Wearable works of art on display for A Dress for Venice: a project by Venezia da Vivere and Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua in collaboration with Homo Faber 2022 and the participation of eco-designer Tiziano Guardini
Venezia da Vivere and Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua in collaboration with Homo Faber 2022 present A Dress for Venice, an exhibition of wearable works of art, a project combining craftsmanship, sustainability, and haute couture created with Tiziano Guardini, the eco-designer and winner of the first Green Carpet Fashion Award, who represents sustainable fashion in Italy.
In the historic spaces of Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua on the Grand Canal in Venice, among original 18th-century Jacquard looms and machinery, from April 11 to 29, 2022, an exhibition of numbered works of art, carrying undisputed value for the present and especially for the future, speaks of the 1,600 years of history of the Serenissima and its artisans, who with their mastery carry Venice’s millennial heritage of artisanal excellence into the future.
In tribute to Japan, guest of honor at Homo Faber 2022, six kimonos and a dress designed by Tiziano Guardini with illustrations by artist Luigi R. Ciuffreda tell stories celebrating Life (with a capital L) and the connection with nature.
Everything in this project has immense value: from the tailoring of the garments to the use of figured velvet from the archive of Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua, where Venice writes the new narrative of haute couture, intertwining craftsmanship, sustainability, and contemporary culture.
A Dress for Venice looks to the future, combining centuries-old Venetian traditions with contemporary creativity in a project that paves the way for “making fashion” sustainable, where sharing a green vision becomes a winning asset for the region and for new generations. In this project, fashion rediscovers its role as a powerful vehicle for conveying important messages.
A Dress for Venice is a project by Venezia da Vivere with Tiziano Guardini and Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua — the only operational textile factory in Venice — and has actively involved the Tavolo Veneto della Moda (Confartigianato, CNA, Confindustria, Confcommercio, and Confesercenti del Veneto) and some of their associated companies of excellence, institutions, universities, and manufacturing vocational schools.
The exhibition takes place from April 11 to 29, 2022, at Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua in Venice, near the Ca’ Pesaro Museum of Oriental Art, where the exhibition Trame Giapponesi is currently running (until July 3, 2022), featuring an extraordinary display of costumes and masks from Japanese Nō theater.
On the path that will lead Venice to become the World Capital of Sustainability, this event is a step in the journey that proposes Venice as the venue for the debate on Sustainable Fashion.
