American artist Gisèle Lubsen’s underwater photographs arrive in Venice at Ca’ Zenobio with the exhibition Underwater Portrait

“Imagine a world where everything is possible. That is what water is to me.” These are the words of Gisèle Lubsen, an American photographer and underwater artist arriving in Venice at Ca’ Zenobio with an exhibition of images created underwater, adding to the rich array of exhibitions open during the 2019 Art Biennale.

Gisele is a conceptual artist committed to female empowerment and education regarding people’s spiritual transformation. Whether she is creating for an art gallery or a branding project, her goal is to create a mystical experience.

The intense imagery of a Renaissance painting, captured with living and moving subjects, creates iconic and timeless images that touch the soul.

With a unique lighting technique designed to mimic the inspiration of 16th and 17th-century painters such as Caravaggio, Gisèle brings a dreamlike quality and an emotional feel to her shots—a photographic approach developed through art history studies in Paris at the American University and later at the Parsons School of Art & Design.

Each shoot creates a personal experience and a unique narrative, becoming a singular story that is impossible to replicate or recreate.

At Ca’ Zenobio, Gisèle Lubsen will present a new interactive way to share her art with the public: visitors will be able to enjoy an underwater experience thanks to a collaboration with Lenticular, an innovative Italian creative agency specializing in 3D reality.
