The Marco Polo Bookstore opens the first neighbourhood bookshop on the Giudecca Island

The Marco Polo Bookstore opens a new shop, which will also be an exhibition and meeting space: after the successful debut in Campo Santa Margherita, the clever booksellers Claudio Moretti, Sabina Rizzardi and Flavio Biz are now opening a new bookshop on the Giudecca Island, an attractive growing centre for artistic and cultural activities.

A white and clean interior design and a large showcase with a splendid view over the Giudecca Canal; this opening is an act of courage and value that gives the Giudecca its first and only bookstore, a long waited shared space with quality books, reading groups , exhibitions, meetings and courses.

A bookstore as a place for cultural sharing and exhibitions

The real showcase of the Marco Polo Giudecca store are the shelves placed at the entrance that host the recommended readings for the customers; these get changed monthly according to a specific theme. Currently the theme is the colour red, a common thread that distinguishes Marco Polo bookstores’ brand.

Specific themed books are all displayed along the long wall that surrounds the bookcase, in line with the former use of the room as an art gallery. This month the bookstore presents a tribute to Bruno Munari, an Italian artist, designer and writer who finds here his perfect collocation with books listed in the catalogue and out-of-print texts that are difficult to find.

The collaboration with smaller publishers continues to offer a refined cut and novelty in the line

Truthful to the independent personality that distinguishes the spirit of the Marco Polo bookstore, the collaboration proceeds with medium and small publishing houses such as Hyperborea, Minimum Fax, Keller, Topipittori and others. There is also some news to differentiate the offer from the Santa Margherita’s store: at the Giudecca’s shop you can find fiction but also crime and fantasy, travel guides and literature, and new publishing houses of children illustrated books.

The third room is dedicated to the second hand books. You can find texts in English and Italian appealing to a wide audience, and a niche reserved for high quality, rare and precious books.

The bookstore is a new space gained by the community of the Giudecca Island

Located in an exhibition space of cultural consumption, the new neighbourhood library is a meeting point where you can sit and enjoy a good book and have a chat, and starting from 2018 the program will be enriched with reading groups, courses on individual authors and themes, to involve a growing number of users.
