Bugno Art Gallery: art & photography since 1991

Since 1991 Massimiliano Bugno has curated the spaces dedicated to modern and contemporary art and photography

For 25 years the Bugno Art Gallery has been a point of reference for enthusiasts and collectors of modern art, contemporary art and photography.

The Gallery has been operating in Campo San Fantin since 1991. When we walk by we are always drawn to spy inside the gallery and to look around the art works on display.

Opened 25 years ago by Massimiliano Bugno and Davide Samueli and taken over by Bugno himself in 2000, the Gallery has historically paid a particular attention to the movements of the Nouveau Réalisme and Fluxus. Christo, Mimmo Rotella, Cesar, Ben Vautier and Joseph Beuys have also exhibited there among other artists.

The collaboration that immediately made the Bugno Gallery stand out in the artistic world was the one with Armand Pierre Fernandez, known as Arman, an artist who, in addition to having launched Bugno’s spaces with his own personal exhibition, has been present continuously over the years, both in their permanent exhibition and in the various trade fairs in which the Gallery took part.

In the context of modern and contemporary Italian art, Massimiliano Bugno’s choices were directed towards Mario Schifano, Alighiero Boetti, Piero Dorazio, Carla Accardi, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Sandro Chia, Nicola De Maria and Lucio Fontana. Schifano, in particular, has dedicated to the Gallery a whole series of art works developed around Venice, which have taken the title of “Venezioso”.

And we keep talking about Venice and the many famous artists who were born here or spent here an important phase of their lives, first of all Emilio Vedova together with Giuseppe Santomaso, Afro, Edmondo Bacci, Mario Deluigi and Armando Pizzinato, whose Official Archive is curated and supervised by the Bugno Gallery.

For more than ten years the Gallery has been following with interest the world of contemporary photography: working closely with Italian and international photographers such as Luca Campigotto, Andrea Morucchio, Paolo Ventura, Maurizio Galimberti and Rune Guneriussen, Marco Zanta. Bugno has built an important network of collaborations that have also allowed the organisation of important events and personal exhibitions, consolidating the role of the Gallery as one of the most attentive even in terms of photographic art.
