T Fondaco dei Tedeschi By DFS in Venice

T Fondaco dei Tedeschi is the new luxury shopping centre in the Venice city centre.

Since the fifteenth century the Fondaco dei Tedeschi has been a centre of all the trades between the East and the West and a meeting place for different cultures; it tells a story of international business of nearly 800 years: first warehouse and then exhibition and trade centre for the German merchants, it used also to be the border station during the Napoleonic period and the Venice post office for the last decades.

Destroyed by a fire in 1505, it was rebuilt by the Venetian Senate. After the Rialto Bridge, if you are coming from the city market, you can see clearly on the left the imposing silhouette of T Fondaco dei Tedeschi, built with Roman construction techniques, in a Palladian architectural style.

T Fondaco dei Tedeschi is fashion and accessories, watches and jewellery, wines and spirits, perfumes and cosmetics, local crafts and gourmet food products: with the restoration carried out by the architect Oma of the architect Rem Koolhaas, the large structure overlooking the Grand Canal is now a great luxury centre with the most researched high-end products designed by Italian and international brands.
