Sustainable Fashion, Creatives, High Craftsmanship, International Relations: Venice Fashion Week’s Formula for Venice

First news on the program of the upcoming Venice Fashion Week, taking place in Venice from October 17 to 26: the London College of Fashion UAL and the British Consulate General – Department for International Trade, Marina Spadafora of Fashion Revolution, and designers Tiziano Guardini and Patrick McDowell will participate in the Venetian fashion week with the Sustainable Fashion Day, to be held in Venice at Hotel Ca’ Sagredo on Wednesday, October 23, 2019.

The events—the UK-Italy: Lessons in Sustainable Fashion roundtable and the evening presentation of the two guest designers’ collections—will focus on fashion sustainability, the training of future designers, and consumer education. Italian and British speakers will be joined by industry experts, companies, and young creatives.

Made in Italy fashion and contemporary art, palaces and artisan ateliers open with fashion shows and exhibitions, young creatives, high craftsmanship, and international guests: Venice Fashion Week is an event created to promote the potential of the city of Venice and the Veneto Region as a productive, creative, and inspiring place, a city for experimenting with new lifestyles and for creating connections between local excellence and international creatives. The themes of the Venetian fashion week are Sustainable Fashion, High Craftsmanship, Young Creatives.

The event organizers Laura Scarpa and Lorenzo Cinotti of Venezia da Vivere present among the Venice Fashion Week partners—fashion, craftsmanship, and cultural companies from the city and the Veneto—the historic Venetian company Antica Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua, the last precious fabric factory for haute couture producing damasks and soprarizzo velvets on the Grand Canal using antique looms.

The Director of London College of Fashion Prof. Frances Corner OBE and Marina Iremonger, Head of Fashion and Creative Industries at the British Consulate, have announced the second edition of the roundtable UK-Italy: Lessons in Sustainable Fashion as part of the Sustainable Fashion Day on Wednesday, October 23.

The panel will be moderated by Marina Spadafora and will feature, as representatives of Italian and British fashion, speakers at the roundtable and protagonists of the fashion event taking place in the evening at Ca’ Sagredo, designers Tiziano Guardini and Patrick McDowell, invited to discuss sustainability and fashion with a focus on training future designers and consumer education.

Style consultant for Prada, Miu Miu, Ferragamo, and Marni, Marina Spadafora is the Italian coordinator for Fashion Revolution, a global movement for ethical and sustainable fashion.

Tiziano Guardini

Winner of the Green Carpet Fashion Award as best emerging designer, committed for several years to promoting sustainable fashion to the point of being affectionately called “nature’s designer” by the press, fashion designer Tiziano Guardini was also a guest at the United Nations for the Fashion for Forest and Forest for Fashion event alongside Maestro Michelangelo Pistoletto.

Patrick McDowell

Patrick McDowell, a 23-year-old from Liverpool and graduate of the renowned London school Central Saint Martins, represents the Next Generation of sustainable fashion in the United Kingdom and will speak about his approach to sustainability and ethical work.

The upcoming Venice Fashion Week takes place in Venice from October 17 to 26, 2019 and is organized by Venezia da Vivere with the Municipality of Venice, Veneto Region, and Tavolo della Moda.
