On Saturday, February 8, discover Venetian artisan workshops with a walk together with the photographers of IgersVenezia.
Veneziadavivere and IgersVenezia dedicate the usual Carnival Instameet to Venetian workshops to support the artisans of Venice.
The appointment is at 10 AM at the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista. We will begin with a true theatrical costume atelier: the Atelier Pietro Longhi will open our itinerary into the artistic heritage of the artisan tradition that tells the history and life of Venice.
We will continue among carpentry workshops and treasures of paper, glass, and fabric, ending with antique photography and then heading towards the official inauguration of the Venice Carnival in Cannaregio.
It will be a walk among photographers and the public to discover precious places of hidden Venice and meet Venetian artisans and creatives in person. At the end, an aperitif at Ca’ Bonfadini, a new 5-star hotel that joined the city’s cultural scene last season, which will offer us a privileged viewpoint over the Cannaregio Canal.

Atelier Pietro Longhi is in Venice for Carnival at the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista, a place where Venetian culture and tradition for art, architecture, and beauty are expressed more than ever.
Founded in 1261, the Scuola is a monumental complex with illustrious examples of Gothic, Renaissance, and Venetian Baroque art and architecture, where you can find works by artists such as Codussi, Massari, Morlaiter, Palma il Giovane, Tintoretto, and Longhi.
Seat of the secular confraternity of the same name for over seven centuries, after the damage caused by the high water on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, the Scuola is once again open and active: a place of culture and a museum open to the public that hosts conferences, concerts, and cultural events.
On Saturday we will meet Francesco Briggi and Raffaele Dessí and we will be able to try on historical clothing and accessories inspired by the paintings Briggi has seen in museums around the world, handcrafted masterpieces of high tailoring: Michelangelo, Raphael, Boucher, David, and Hogarth are the “stylists” from whom Briggi draws inspiration.

Paperoowl – paper objects and other wonders
“From the water you came, in the water you ended, despite the water you were reborn!” If transforming paper into design objects and jewelry is the project of Stefania Giannici, creator of Paperoowl, one could only think that Stefania would not be stopped by the water.
Stefania demonstrates her creativity with wonderful products, including those created with paper that ended up in the high tide of November 12. Gilded, hand-printed, marbled, and painted papers from all over the world, together with colors, folds, and details. Stefania skillfully shapes paper to create jewelry, decorations, home decor, and stationery: boxes, envelopes, notebooks, gift and furnishing items, up to the incredible paper pearl necklaces: beautiful, colorful or minimal, and light.
This artisan workshop in Calle Longa in Santa Croce has created, with the florists of Bottega 2137 and the Radical Fashion boutique Slash, the Calle Longa District.

Barchette di Carta – when paper becomes art
Extraordinary manual skill and boundless imagination are the elements that make illustrator and designer Maria Mariano a unique artist, just as the creations in paper and fabric by Barchetta di Carta are unique, an artisan workshop between Calle dei Boteri and Campo San Cassiano, in the heart of Rialto.
Poetic fantastic animals, funny elves and goblins, unicorns, seagulls, and hens, castles and bell towers populate notebooks, diaries, and sketchbooks hand-sewn with fine papers, cases and purses, cloth dolls inspired by the world of fairy tales, home decorations, postcards, greeting cards, bags, and t-shirts.

Sotoportego de Rialto – the new shopping street in Venice
The porticos of Rialto are the new street for refined shopping in Venice: boutiques, artisans, and ateliers have joined together to give a soul to the area that from the Middle Ages onwards was the luxury street of Venice, and now presents itself as the cultural experience of creative shopping: jewelry, fashion, design, and craftsmanship in the ancient street of the goldsmiths.
The origin of the name, Sotoportego dei Oresi, derives from the presence of numerous goldsmith workshops of which traces are found as early as documents dated 1015. In March 1331, the resolution of the Great Council was approved, obliging the oresi to trade, work, and sell gold exclusively in the Insula of Rialto.
The frescoes of Ruga degli Oresi tell of the great work performed also by important artists such as Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto, and Veronese, who made Venice in the 16th century The Painted City. Every shop, every artisan, had the vault above their business painted, giving it prestige and at the same time keeping the public building in good condition.

La Fabbrica del Vedere: Venice, Carnival and Love. Images of Venice in Masks
The Fabbrica del Vedere is a space where themes of photography and the moving image are explored, from experimental cinema to artist video. A precious video library and library, it is a place for study and visions, a true factory because it was founded to work with the gaze and thoughts, where meetings, exhibitions, and workshops take place.
From February 8 to March 7, the exhibition Venice, Carnival and Love. Images of Venice in Masks presents photographs, screenings of film excerpts, and objects ranging from the playful to the licentious, connected to the theme of love.
The inauguration will be precisely Saturday, February 8 at 5:00 PM, and the exhibition, with free admission, will be open from 5 PM to 7 PM (closed on Tuesdays).
