Day 2, Wednesday, April 17: a coffee in St. Mark’s Square with Robert Indiana
The exhibition dedicated to Robert Indiana, the Pop Art artist best known for the iconic series LOVE, is open from today at the Procuratie Vecchie in St. Mark’s Square. Robert Indiana: The Sweet Mystery is a collateral event of the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, curated by the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. For the press during the Biennale preview, there is something we greatly appreciate: the Press Breakfast. The exhibition offers a fresh perspective on themes of spirituality, identity, and the human condition, with works spanning six decades of Indiana’s career, some of which are rarely exhibited.

Edipo Re and the Artist’s Sail
From Wednesday, April 17, the boat Edipo Re moored in front of the Royal Gardens of Venice presents AdE_VELA_RAPIDO, a site-specific work that the Atelier dell’Errore collective designed and created for the second edition of the Vela d’Artista project by Edipo Re, with the support of Collezione Maramotti and the contribution of Gianni Belletti.
The Vela d’Artista project involves the design and creation of a sail for Edipo Re, a vessel dear to Pier Paolo Pasolini, by contemporary artists capable of weaving together values such as environmental sustainability and social inclusion. Atelier dell’Errore is a collective of neuro-atypical artists who used 50 isothermal emergency blankets to create AdE_Vela_Rapido, a mainsail 10 meters high and 5 meters wide.
The vessel, acting as a floating pavilion, will welcome the public in the St. Mark’s Basin from April 17 to 21, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. During the summer, Edipo Re will serve as a traveling pavilion in the Venice Lagoon until the Venice Film Festival.

The art of travel in the Orient Express carriages
The iconic Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, the Belmond Train that traverses Europe, rewrites history with L’Observatoire, a sleeper carriage designed by the artist JR, a photographer and socially engaged street artist known for performances involving hundreds of people and monumental portraits in public spaces worldwide, aimed at making art accessible to all.
Between April 17 and 22, 2024, the public will be able to observe the interiors of this historic carriage: the bedroom, the bathroom, the lounge area, the library, and a secret tea room.
The art of travel for Belmond: the visionary James B. Sherwood founded Belmond in 1976 when he acquired the Hotel Cipriani in Venice. His goal was to revive the “golden age of travel,” and the following year he succeeded with the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train, which he began assembling by purchasing two original sleeper carriages at a Sotheby’s auction in Monte Carlo. Once composed of 17 carriages, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express departed on its first journey toward Venice in May 1982.

Art Explora Festival, aboard the world’s first museum catamaran
A museum ship and a traveling festival sail the world’s seas and oceans, offering innovative artistic experiences to bridge the cultural divide and promote increasingly broad and democratic access to the arts. It is the Mediterranean cultural odyssey of the Art Explora Foundation by French entrepreneur and patron Frédéric Jousset.
In Venice, from April 17 to 23, it will dock at Riva dei Sette Martiri and welcome visitors for an immersive exhibition in collaboration with the Louvre, events, and meetings.
Until the autumn of 2026, the festival will visit 15 Mediterranean countries, crossing every border with art, adorned with its great sails designed by Laure Prouvost.

Light Over Banksy
From April 17 to 21, The Migrant Child comes to life on the canal at Campo San Pantalon from 9 PM onwards.
Light over Banksy Alive is a project for everyone commissioned by Banca Ifis, which will restore the artist’s mural and transform the building housing it into an art center, curated by immersive artist Anderson Tegon with the studio Pepper’s Ghost. Watch the video.

FORTUNY + CHAHAN
Fortuny and Chahan Minassian collaborate to create a new design venue on the island of Giudecca.
The Venetian textile and design house, founded by Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo in 1921, collaborates with designer Chahan Minassian to transform the former residence of Countess Gozzi, adjacent to the Fortuny Factory, into a destination for international contemporary design. Book your free visit by appointment, Monday to Saturday, 10 AM – 6 PM.
