Hand-printed velvets, sartorial creations and precious materials in the Antonia Sautter boutique
In San Marco there is a magical place that smells of velvet and damasks. Pearls, crystals, Venetian silks, jewel bags, embroidered shoes and diva stoles: it is here that, in Venice, you can find clothes and accessories to make your most important evenings unforgettable. It is a boutique and it is the entrance into the world of Antonia Sautter, fashion designer and creator of the Doge’s Ball.
Born in Venice, Antonia Sautter is a fashion designer and organizer of luxury events; the core of her thirty years of activity is still based in the historic centre of Venice, next to Piazza San Marco, showing her passion and gratitude towards this unique and inimitable city.
With her sartorial fashion creations that she designs and realizes entirely by hand in the heart of Venice and then exhibits in her boutique, with her luxury events created for her loyal private customers and for some of the greatest international brands, with the most symbolic party of the Venice Carnival, Antonia Sautter represents a bridge between tradition and contemporaneity that has always connected Venice with the rest of the world.
Above Antonia’s house there is the ‘Sartoria’, her Tailor’s shop, which was once the attic of her childhood games. It is here that every morning Antonia starts her day: together with her tailors and dressmakers; they make every single decoration by hand, they baste theatrical costumes, create diadems and tiaras, timeless bags, transparent scarves and divine hats.
All the production is handcrafted in Venice, in the artist’s house: thanks to her decades-long sartorial experience, Antonia realizes her garments starting from the design and production of the stamps she then uses to print on velvet; they are made by hand with natural pigments, accordingly to the ancient Venetian traditions. Fabrics also become furnishing elements and beautiful tapestries for the houses of Venetians and people all over the world.
Antonia Sautter grew up surrounded by creativity and fashion thanks to her mother who was a dressmaker herself; she used to make all her Carnival costumes encouraging her to unleash her imagination. In fact the Doge’s Ball and her other events for which she is well known, her prints on velvets and damasks and her fashion collections are profoundly connected to her dreams and emotions.
Next to the boutique there is the Atelier, a small fashion museum that can be visited by appointment. There are more than 1200 theatrical costumes produced by Antonia, belonging to all the historical periods, created for specific artistic performances, for the Doge’s Ball or for the other events that Antonia organizes for companies that want to offer their guests the dream of a Venetian masked ball.
In the atelier the most precious clothes come to life through the Antonia’s tales; she makes her guests live an immersive experience through organized guided tours of the atelier and photo shootings in costume with a photographer inside the most amazing venues of Venice.
The Venetia Boutique is dedicated to fashion and the collections include shoes, bags, kimonos, scarves, damasks and furnishing accessories.
