In Venice, the magic of cinema under the stars at the Arsenale. Everyone in boats with the second edition of Cinema Barch-in, the Venetian drive-in
Cinema Barch-In returns, the cinema on the water to watch films, listen to music, and spend time together in boats from July 24 to 31, 2021 in the basin of the Arsenale in Venice, the ancient shipyard of the Serenissima.
While waiting for sunset and to begin taking one’s place in a boat (also guaranteed for those without a boat, by requesting via email cercoimbarco@cinemabarchin.com), the evenings begin with an Aperiporto curated by Campari.
The screening of short films and a musical selection curated by the Venetian icon of reggae music GialloMan and by Radio Birikina, Radio PiterPan and Radio Ca’ Foscari will accompany the mooring phase of the spectators’ boats.
Between a Spritz and a cicchetto with on-board delivery by Cocai Express, the Venetian food delivery start-up born during the first lockdown, we will discover the city also through films, all connected to Venice. The festival is dedicated to the city’s 1600th anniversary.
Saturday, June 24 from the afternoon, we at Venezia da Vivere will share the backstage of Barch-in and the inauguration live, with interviews with the protagonists and coverage of the spaces on the Instagram account @veneziadavivere.

The Program
Saturday, July 24
A Ballad of the Salt Sea by Richard and Liam Danto and Liam Saury tells the story of Corto Maltese, a charming and romantic sailor, born from the pen of Hugo Pratt.
The opening evening, created in collaboration with FumetteriaZazà, Associazione CulturaleVeneziaComix, Creature di Gomma and Rai, pays tribute to the city in its most artistic and poetic dimension by dedicating it to a character linked to the Venetian imagination, born from the pen of Hugo Pratt. A journey through a mysterious and dreamlike Venice that will be enjoyed by spectators aboard the approximately 70 moored boats in the waters of the Arsenale, thanks to the contribution of Boscolo Bielo who laid the buoys.
The film screening, which begins at 9:00 PM, will be preceded at 7:00 PM by the Aperiporto, curated by Campari, while spectators will be entertained by the live music of Giallo Man (vocals) & Federico Nalesso (trombone), before the institutional greetings and the introduction to the film.

Summer is at the cinema in Venice
Barch-In is an event included in the rich program of summer events in Venice.
From August 4 to 20 at Teatro Piccolo Arsenale there is the 2nd Festival of Restored Cinema hosting the Classics Outside the Festival. In first screening, the memorable comedy awarded at the Cannes Film Festival in 1964, Seduced and Abandoned by Pietro Germi.
And we could not miss a mention of the 78th Venice International Film Festival of the Biennale, scheduled from September 1 to 11: we will be there every day to cover backstage and red carpets, stars and behind-the-scenes of the world’s oldest film festival.
And on September 3 we will share live the world premiere of one of the most anticipated films of the year, Dune. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, based on the books by Frank Herbert, it is the remake of the iconic 1984 science fiction film by David Lynch, which we recommend everyone rewatch during the summer for discussions, comparisons and nostalgia. The stellar cast will include Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac and, in the role of the cruel Baron Harkonnen, the great Stellan Skarsgård.
