The international exhibition on contemporary fine craftsmanship Homo Faber: The Journey of Life presents extraordinary objects and talented artisans at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore from September 1 to 30, 2024.
The second edition of Homo Faber in Città invites visitors to observe master artisans and young talents in Venice in the places where they create: over 70 workshops open for free visits without reservation, during specific hours.

Splendid Venice – Starhotels Collezione, San Marco, Mercerie 760
Splendid Venice – Starhotels Collezione and Fondazione Cologni present the exhibition of the collection of porcelain hearts created by Elica Studio. An initiative within the contemporary patronage project La Grande Bellezza, in support of fine Italian craftsmanship, promoted by Starhotels with Fondazione Cologni, OMA-Osservatorio dei Mestieri d’Arte, and Gruppo Editoriale.

The life of a Venetian nobleman in the 18th century at Ca’ Querini

A journey into the life of an 18th-century Venetian nobleman through the precious objects displayed in the house museum of the Fondazione Querini Stampalia. The themed itinerary is accessible to all visitors via QR Codes placed next to the most significant objects: they link to stories in Italian and English that immerse the visitor in the history of the artifact and its use.

Poolside Crafts. Fortuny collaborates with Dante Negro
Fortuny, Giudecca 805
Fortuny, the textile maison founded in 1921 by the Spanish artist and inventor Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo, presents on the occasion of Homo Faber 2024 its collaboration with Dante Negro, a Venetian company specialized in the metamorphosis of metal, a poolside dialogue between fine craftsmanship and design in one of Venice’s most evocative secret gardens.

Contemporary ceramics in Venice

Palazzo Venart Luxury Hotel presents an exhibition curated by Gaetano Di Gregorio: a dialogue between the ancient ceramics present in the Palace and the works of eight contemporary Venetian artisans: Gaetano Di Gregorio, Chiara Graciotti, Daniela Levera, Adele Stefanelli, Valentina Stocco, SVO Ceramics, and the duo The Freaky Raku.

Maison Margiela for Homo Faber

Maison Margiela celebrates contemporary craftsmanship on the occasion of Homo Faber. The Maison Margiela boutique in Piazza San Marco presents three unique pieces from the Maison Margiela Objects range, created in collaboration with master lace-maker Sandra Mavaracchio from Burano.
Integrated into three white busts—handmade sculptures that recall Maison Margiela’s signature codes such as “memory of” and the white-out treatment—the lace pieces have a “work in progress” appearance, revealing the paper on which the preparatory drawing is still visible.

Homo Faber: The Journey of Life
From September 1 to 30, 2024, the Michelangelo Foundation, in partnership with Fondazione Cologni and Fondazione Giorgio Cini, presents the third edition of Homo Faber, offering an unprecedented look at the craftsmanship embodied in the objects that mark the most precious moments of our lives.
Excellence in craftsmanship becomes the tool to celebrate the fundamental stages of life. The artistic direction is entrusted to Luca Guadagnino who, together with architect Nicolò Rosmarini, explores and develops the theme of The Journey of Life, based on an idea by Hanneli Rupert, Vice-Chair of the Michelangelo Foundation. The installation they envisioned leads visitors along a path through the monumental complex of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore.
Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship is a non-profit institution based in Switzerland that supports contemporary artistic artisans worldwide to promote a more inclusive and sustainable future.
Homo Faber in Città
Venice is the place for the contemporary evolution of the arts and the exchange of creative visions: from September 1 to 30, over 70 workshops throughout the city will open their doors to the public.
The second edition of Homo Faber in Città invites visitors to discover the secret addresses where Venetian artisans create objects of exquisite beauty, a rare opportunity to observe masters and young talents at work.
Visitors can follow one of the suggested thematic itineraries in Venice, Murano, and Burano, or create their own personalized tour from one workshop to another.
Homo Faber in Città is a project presented by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship as part of Homo Faber: The Journey of Life.
Developed in partnership with Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte, with the support of Cartier. In collaboration with Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Confartigianato Imprese Venezia, CNA Venezia, Consorzio Promovetro Murano, The Venice Glass Week, and Venezia da Vivere.
