Design for All is the title of Venice Design Week 2021, held in Venice from October 9 to 17. An event established in 2010 with the support of Gillo Dorfles, it is characterized by an investigation into the impact and value of design today.
This year’s focal theme is inclusive design: suitable for all ages, to be experienced through the five senses of the human body, with a particular focus on new technologies supporting experiential enjoyment both in person and remotely. There are also many meetings with experts from the world of design and production.
Therefore, there is a greater focus on design that, in addition to its form, must serve a beneficial function in close relation to the real and virtual worlds, new materials, innovations in the food packaging sector, agriculture, and many other fields, as explained by Lisa Balasso, architect and founder of Venice Design Week.
The program of the eleventh edition offers the opportunity to follow, map in hand, itineraries dedicated to light installations, augmented reality, virtual versions of Venice’s history, craft workshops, and showrooms where one can learn artisanal know-how from Venetian designers: a centuries-old wealth and prestige that lives on in the creative spirit of contemporary design.

- The installation Insula dei Luminari, curated by Archon Studio
, is on display at the Galleria Franchetti at Ca’ d’Oro. - For its eighth edition, the Ca’ Pisani Deco Design Hotel is hosting the VDW Jewelry Selection competition.
- The Hotel Ca’ Nigra Lagoon Resort will host the Design Market on October 16 and 17, featuring coffee tastings, performances, music, and DJ sets.
- Galleria S. Eufemia presents the Artisans’ Collective from Basilicata.
- Palazzo Bembo and the architectural projects linked to VDW2021.
- The Jewelry award ceremony will take place at Palazzo Contarini Polignac, in collaboration with Edmond à Venise.
- At Isola delle Rose, a cocktail event highlighting the work of Hannah Stippl dedicated to the “care” of our natural environment.
- At Palazzo Michiel, on Tuesday, October 12, a meeting highlighting “artisanal know-how” organized by Maker Mile is scheduled.
