Best wishes to Art Night Venezia
On Saturday, October 2, from 4 PM to midnight, Art Night Venezia returns in person. The event was conceived and coordinated by Ca’ Foscari University under the scientific direction of Silvia Burini and the coordination of Angela Bianco. The Venetian Night of Art is an immersive experience that allows you to experience the city’s exhibitions, art venues, and cultural institutions through tours, performances, events, and concerts.
This year marks the tenth edition of Venice Art Night, held on the same day as the Nuit Blanche in Paris, with which it will be connected via live stream at the opening of the celebrations. Discover all the art night events with the new Venice News online map.
Access to activities will be permitted to users holding a Green Pass and wearing a mask. Some activities require mandatory reservation.
Entry to the main courtyard and certain events may occur without a reservation, for a limited number of people to avoid crowding.
Venice Fashion Week
After a summer that saw haute couture take center stage in Venice, Venice Fashion Week returns in person to the palaces and art venues of Venice from Thursday, October 14 to Saturday, October 30, 2021.
Fashion in Venice is artisanal and creative, sustainable and made-to-measure. We will discover it with its protagonists through fashion shows, cocktails, meetings, and itineraries along the fashion streets, in boutiques, and in the Atelier Aperti (Open Ateliers). The Venetian fashion week is also phygital: events will be both live and online, with live broadcasts from the shows and backstage on the online channels of @venicefashionweek and @veneziadavivere.
Venice Photo Lab 2021
Now in its third edition, Venice Photo Lab is the event conceived and directed by Fabio Cavessago of LAB77.
From October 8 to 17, 2021, in collaboration with UNI.S.VE, photographers, artists, and new guests such as Gabriele Galimberti, Tatsuo Suzuki, Guido Stazzoni, and Hardibudi will be presented.
The vernissage, at the headquarters of the Venice Plasterers’ Union UnisVe at Dorsoduro 3077, between Campo San Barnaba and Campo Santa Margherita, is on Saturday, October 9 from 5:30 PM, featuring a musical performance by violinist Eleonora de Poi.
Venice Design Week
From October 9 to 17, design takes center stage in Venice with Venice Design Week, which has taken place every October since 2010, organized by the Cultural Association Arte e Design Venezia. This year’s rich program includes meetings with designers, exhibitions, augmented reality, conferences, and guided tours in the ateliers of artisan designers.

Venice Hospitality Challenge
On Saturday, October 16, the Venice Hospitality Challenge will take place. This regatta is reserved for maxi yachts invited by the Yacht Club Venezia and is part of the celebrations for the 1600th anniversary of Venice. It is a race to watch for both professionals and enthusiasts, who can admire famous skippers battling on Venetian waters to compete for the coveted “Doge’s Hat,” which has become the symbol of the event.
Archaeological Aperitif in the Lagoon
On Saturday, October 2, the Lio Piccolo archaeological excavation officially opens its doors to the public.
For every weekend in October in the small village north of Cavallino, reachable by bicycle from Treporti, guided tours organized by Vivere d’Acqua are scheduled. These include conversations and visits to the excavation with archaeologists at work, to learn about the link between man and the environment in antiquity through a stratigraphic and interpretive path leading to the findings. To conclude, an aperitif prepared by the Le Saline farmhouse. The events are free and the aperitif is optional, costing €12. On Sunday, October 10, the aperitif will be with the Venetian writer Tiziano Scarpa.

The Gallerie dell’Accademia expand
The Gallerie dell’Accademia have expanded their spaces with the Selva-Lazzari Halls dedicated to 17th and 18th-century painting.
An incredible exhibition path featuring 63 works, some never before exhibited or never seen in their current state, the result of restoration work carried out with the support of Venetian Heritage.
Among the masterpieces to see are Tiepolo’s Punishment of the Serpents, a 13-meter canvas, and the new entry Il Bravo by Titian, a masterpiece of 16th-century painting from the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, on display until January 20, 2022. The painting will temporarily take the place of Giorgione’s La Vecchia, which will be exhibited in the Viennese museum’s exhibition Titian’s Image of Women. Beauty – Love – Poetry.
A Hidden Sky, the music of Giovanni Morelli
From September 30 to October 3, Un cielo nascosto (A Hidden Sky) will be held in various venues in Venice. This is the first edition of the festival dedicated to the musicologist Giovanni Morelli, who passed away 10 years ago and had a strong bond with Venice.
The festival is organized across the locations where Morelli left his mark: Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, where he taught for decades; Teatro La Fenice, where he served as a consultant; the Luigi Nono Archive, of which he was a founding member; the Levi Foundation, where he was a member of the Scientific Committee and the Board of Directors; and the Giorgio Cini Foundation, where he directed the Institute for Music.
Arte Laguna Prize opens the Arsenale
The MoCA Cultural Association (Modern & Contemporary Art) presents the finalists of the 16th edition of the Arte Laguna Prize, the international award held in the spaces of the Venice Arsenale, open to the public free of charge from October 3 to November 21, 2021.
Exhibitions of the SPARC Circuit
During the Atelier Aperti walks, we visited the exhibition at SPARC – Venice Art Factory in Campo Santo Stefano, a space that embraces multiculturalism in various forms. Francesca Giubilei and Luca Berta present, until October 24, the collective of international artists: How Long Is Forever? by Silvano Rubino and Women | Matter by Barbara Pelizzon, Noemi Eller, Renata Adela, and Wendy Krochmal.
Under the same curatorship at the Fondation Valmont at Palazzo Bonvicini in Calle Agnello near Campo Santa Maria Mater Domini, Alice in Doomedland featuring Didier Guillon, ISAO & Kristine Blake, and Silvano Rubino is on until February 27, 2022.
This is an exhibition we visited during the opening days of the Architecture Biennale, and we recommend it for its engaging metaphor between play and human power, its exploration of dystopian reality, and how each of us has influenced the transformation of the world—not the world of dreams, but the real world we all share.
The Architecture Biennale
Autumn colors make a visit to the Giardini della Biennale, one of the venues for the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, even more evocative.
Until November 21, 2021, the exhibition How will we live together? curated by architect, professor, and researcher Hashim Sarkis, can be visited by walking through the pavilions at the Giardini della Biennale, in the grand spaces of the Arsenale, and in the many free exhibitions throughout the city, featuring architectural proposals and research from nations all over the world.
The Biennale will close on the feast day of the Madonna della Salute, but the Biennale is already active in organizing the next exhibition, scheduled from April 23 to November 27, 2022 (pre-opening April 20, 21, and 22), titled The Milk of Dreams. It is curated for the first time by an Italian woman, Cecilia Alemani, whom we interviewed in 2017 on the occasion of Creatrici di futuro for the presentation of Il Mondo Magico, her Italian Pavilion at the 57th International Art Exhibition.
See you, Tomorrow & Camera Oscura until October 9
a.topos Venice, for the final meeting of the first edition of The Creative Room, presents two exhibitions: See you, Tomorrow and Camera Oscura, involving 63 artists.
The common theme of these two exhibitions is Covid-19 and how the pandemic has influenced the environmental crisis, domestic abuse, and consumerism. Furthermore, it explores how the artists themselves experienced isolation and restrictions through the camera lens.
Alongside the exhibition programming, the courtyard of Palazzo Donà Brusa hosts Argo by Federica Zianni, special winner of the We Art Open prize organized by No Title Gallery, a virtual exhibition gallery by Artistic Director Francesco Liggieri.
Exhibitions and events between Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana
Performance, photography, and cinema in the theater are the offerings from the Pinault Collection: at Punta della Dogana, the exhibition Bruce Nauman: Contrapposto Studies, curated by Carlos Basualdo, continues for another year, while at Palazzo Grassi, HyperVenezia by Roman photographer Mario Peliti is on until January 9, 2022.
From October 7 to 10, 2021, in the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi — a 225-seat auditorium restored by Tadao Ando — there is The International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA). This film festival of 16 titles, including shorts and feature films, is dedicated to visual, performing, and media arts, architecture, and the lives of artists. It has been active in Montreal for about forty years and is directed by Philippe Del Drago.
Venice on the run
And if you still have breath and energy, we recommend you clear your schedule for October 24 and participate in the 35th Venicemarathon, an initiative started in 1986 that engages and excites both adults and children.
This year’s commemorative medal is dedicated to the 1600th anniversary of Venice. Above the date “Venezia 421-2021,” it depicts the Winged Lion of Saint Mark in a “rampant” version wearing running shoes, designed by the American graphic artist Milton Glaser.
At the starting line of the Charity Program solidarity marathon will be Paralympic athlete, writer, and member of parliament Giusy Versace, to give a new sporting dream to everyone.
