The weekend dedicated to craftsmanship and sustainable shopping in boutiques, ateliers, and workshops of Venice is back. Cocktails with designers, presentations and walks with fashion experts Giulia Carli, image consultant, and architect and costume historian Raffaele Dessì, as well as the team members and photographers of Venezia da Vivere and Venice Fashion Week.

Séverina Lartigue and the art of flower making

Séverina Lartigue
Silk flower making, a technique of Italian origin brought to France back in 1738, consists of skilfully transforming fabric into a single flower. Maître d’art and floral parurière, Séverina has been creating handmade silk flowers for haute couture in her atelier in Normandy since 1998. She works for the most important French haute couture maisons, and collaborates with the Paris Opera and cinema.
650 Silk Roses is an exhibition designed by Séverina for the Tokyo Rose Festival in Japan, now on show at the Magazzino Gallery from 19 to 26 October. The collection is inspired by the roses painted by the Duchesse de Montebello di Winterhalter in a painting of Empress Eugénie – the spirit of the Second Empire par excellence – for the 1855 Universal Exhibition in Paris.
Nadia Syrkova
Born in St Petersburg, raised in Venice, and educated at Central Saint Martins in London, Nadia Syrkova is the mind and hand behind Syrk Design.
In each hat that takes shape in Nadia’s expert hands, her love of theatrical costumes and her passion for decoration come together. In her Atelier in Castello, Nadia infuses each hat with her creativity and her perpetual search for new materials that are 100% Made in Italy, constantly exploring different techniques. Each creation is unique, modeled on the measurements, style, and desires of each individual customer, thus creating a timeless accessory that reflects the personality of the wearer.

The eight steps of haute couture flower making with Séverina Lartigue: drawing, trimming, cutting, dyeing, embossing, shaping, flower setting, and finishing of silk rose.
Syrk Design with Nadia Syrkova: Nadia takes inspiration from travel, Venetian craftsmanship, and haute couture to decorate and paint the hats she makes by hand.

In the fourth edition of Venice Photo Lab, the photography festival has chosen a theme that is as current as ever: What is freedom? The project, sponsored by Venice Fashion Week, brings together more than 60 photographers and artists from all over the world, some of them international award-winners such as Paolo Verzone and Eric Lafforgue. It is curated by Fabio Cavessago and the Lab77 Association. It takes place in the beautiful artisan workspaces of the UnisVe Laboratory, and through the shop windows of the Dorsoduro shops, thanks to the collaboration with the Do.Ve association.
The exhibition is open with free admission from 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. until Sunday 23 October.

Vanessa Milan is an artist specialising in illustration, graphics, serigraphy, etching, and xylography. Editor-in-chief of her independent publishing house Edizioni DoppioFondo, she is also the curator of exhibitions such as Project Room for CAMeC (Museum of Contemporary Art of La Spezia), organises workshops with associations, with the Department of Mental Health and as part of the prison rehabilitation programme.

On Saturday morning the Venetian tailor Demis Marin in his small atelier in Rialto will show us some examples of creations made using the ‘upcycling’ technique, which allows you to give new life and restore value to clothes, ties, and outerwear that are no longer useful. The term ‘upcycling’ comes from the German mechanical engineer Reiner Pilz who said in a 1994 interview: “I call recycling “down-cycling”. What we need is “up-cycling”, whereby old products are given a greater value”.
Up-cycling is one of the themes dear to Venice Fashion Week and it will be fully explored in the field of tailoring on Wednesday 26 October at 11 am at Palazzo Sagredo during the seminar: Upcycling, creative recycling of clothes and accessories organised by Confartigianato Imprese, Confartigianato Imprese Veneto and EBAV, together with Demis and Valentina Bonafé of EstroDiverso.

Woman-Life-Freedom ( Donna-Vita-Libertà) is the slogan chosen by Kooch gallery for its participation in Atelier Aperti. The atelier offers Persian art objects by contemporary artists and designers, textiles, ceramics, and outerwear. On Saturday 22 October at 4pm, fashion designer Anahita Matin will give a performance on the theme Woman’s Life Freedom, followed by a musical performance by Iranian musician Fuad Ahmadvand.
A journey into Persian art conceived by owner Yasra Pouyeshman through the jewellery of Sarah Ramzi, the bags of Nogolo Shalali, the clothes of fashion designers Anahita Matin, Sanaz Nataj and Mehrnoosh Shahhosseini, and the sculptures of Afghan artist Alikhan Abdullah.
