We are transitioning to spring with a rich calendar of events in Venice: the theatre show at Casa Goldoni dedicated to the Venetian Rina Cavalieri; soul, jazz and tango concerts organized by Veneto Jazz; art and photography exhibitions and the Venice Fashion Week. March is an intense month of events.
Venice Fashion Week brings colour and inspiration: the spring edition runs from 28th to 30th March and is dedicated to Women’s Creativity: more than twenty creative women exhibit, parade or present their collections in the most beautiful hotels in Venice, where fashion is slow, contemporary, sustainable and Made in Italy.
Letizia Battaglia’s social and political photos are on display at the Casa dei Tre Oci, while the Pinault Collection hosts the exhibitions La Pelle e Luogo e Segni respectively at Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana.
Finally, the culinary art of Gusto in Scena, the eagerly awaited food and wine event is back at the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista.

Cuor di Rina Cavalieri at Casa Goldoni
Rina Cavalieri’s words will vibrate at Casa Goldoni on Tuesday, March 12th. Cuor is the theatrical journey interpreted by the Venetian Nora Fuser along the vicissitudes that marked the life of the Venetian Clementina Cavalieri called Rina, born in 1914, which are interwoven with the great events in the history of our country.
Strong and vital, Rina was interviewed by Maria Teresa Sega between 1986 and 1990. Her words convey the creative talent of a pearl worker and the courage of a woman who was intolerant of all forms of abuse.

Soul, jazz and tango with Veneto Jazz events
Veneto Jazz presents an intense calendar of musical events throughout the month of March; they will be located in various cultural and non-cultural venues around the city. From the soul music with modern contaminations of the Too High Trio, to the meeting between Japanese jazz and Argentinean music of the group Gaia Cuatro.
Twenty years after the death of Fabrizio de André, Premiata Forneria Marconi celebrates the poet with a tribute. Experimental jazz, folk and improvised music with melodic inserts will be presented by the young Norwegian jazz trio; Building Instrument and oriental melodies will be played the Chemirani – Barou Trio.
The appointments will end with the captivating melodies of the tango of Tragos de Tango and the performance of Frank Bretschneider, artist and video maker from Berlin, who offers a subtle music, amplified by visual projects of great impact.

Letizia Battaglia at the Casa dei Tre Oci and two new exhibitions at Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana
Satrting on March 20th at the Casa dei Tre Oci on the Island of Giudecca the photo (many unpublished) exhibition by Letizia Battaglia, retraces the historical and political context of the time in which they were taken.
The exhibition, curated by Francesca Alfano Miglietti, focuses on the expressive themes and social criticism that have characterized the artistic path of the photographer. Portraits of men, women, children and animals are accompanied by images of cities with their political implications with insights into life, death and love. The result is a true portrait of Letizia Battaglia, an out of the crowd intellectual artist, but also a poetic and political photographer.
The Pinault Collection hosts the first solo exhibition of Luc Tuymans in Italy. Based on the title of Curzio Malaparte’s book, La Pelle is an exhibition of 80 works created by the artist since 1986. Images that belong to the personal sphere but also taken from television and the web, represented with a rarefied, disturbing light to restore an authentic falsification of reality.
The exhibition Luogo e segni at Punta della Dogana brings together the works of 36 artists connected by their particular relationship with their urban, social, political, historical and intellectual context. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of events, performances and meetings.
