The festival’s first weekend brings together some of the most anticipated events of the 2026 edition at the Lido. Lance Oppenheim presents Primetime with Robert Pattinson, Nanni Moretti returns to the Mostra after 37 years, the Gallagher brothers arrive with the documentary dedicated to the return of Oasis and their rediscovered affection.
Wim Wenders, Andrea Pallaoro, Susan Sarandon, Alicia Vikander and Gael García Bernal are the protagonists of Sunday, September 6.
In the new Coffee with Venezia da Vivere, Pietro Gallina discusses the events of these hours at the Lido and selects the films and protagonists to follow, while Rossana Viola, Igor Serdyukov and Marta Formentello capture the festival through images.
Robert Pattinson brings Primetime to Venice
Chris Hansen is an American journalist and television host who became known for creating and hosting To Catch a Predator, an investigative format featuring undercover operations that “lure” adults who prey on minors online.
In the film Primetime by director Lance Oppenheim, in competition at the Mostra, Chris Hansen has the face of Robert Pattinson. In recent years, the British actor has progressively expanded his filmography working with directors such as David Cronenberg, Claire Denis, Robert Eggers and Christopher Nolan, and taking on roles very different from those that made him famous with Twilight.
In Sala Grande, applause for Pattinson, for the director, and especially for Skyler Gisondo and Phoebe Bridgers.
Nanni Moretti returns to the Mostra
Nanni Moretti returns to the Venice Film Festival after 37 years with Succederà questa notte. Starring Louis Garrel, Moretti himself and Jasmine Trinca, the film originates from work on the stories of Israeli writer Eshkol Nevo.
At the centre is a love story marked by time and missed opportunities, with two people who keep meeting at the wrong moment and seek a new chance.
Liam and Noel Gallagher move the Lido
Among the most important events of the day is the arrival of Liam and Noel Gallagher for Don’t Look Back in Anger, an out-of-competition documentary dedicated to Oasis.
The film, directed by Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern, recounts the band’s return and the rediscovered relationship between the two brothers after years of separation. Tears of joy both on screen and in the theatre.

Serpenti by Roberto De Paolis Maino
In the Venezia Spotlight section, Serpenti by Roberto De Paolis Maino is presented, with Leonardo Lidi, Alessandro Borghi, Pietro Castellitto and Valeria Golino.
The film tells the story of a man who, after killing a woman, wants to turn himself in but cannot be taken seriously. Through a paradoxical situation, De Paolis addresses the issue of violence against women and the way it is still perceived and portrayed.
Amos Gitai recounts the road to Jericho
Also presented out of competition is The Road to Jericho by Israeli director Amos Gitai. The film traverses the occupied territories of the West Bank following stories and people along the road leading to Jericho, observing reality from both sides of the border.
Al Pacino in Father Joe
The first Saturday of the festival closes in Sala Grande with Father Joe by Barthélémy Grossmann, produced by Luc Besson and starring Kiefer Sutherland, Ever Anderson and Al Pacino.
Set in Little Italy, Manhattan, the film is an action thriller centred on Father Joe, a priest who directly confronts organized crime.
Wim Wenders portrays Peter Zumthor in 3D
Wim Wenders returns to documentary and experimentation with 3D with From Inside Out: The Architecture of Peter Zumthor.
The film is dedicated to the works of Swiss architect Peter Zumthor and his way of designing space through materials, light, proportions and perception.
Wenders uses 3D to attempt to convey on screen precisely the physical and sensory dimension of Zumthor’s architecture.
The documentary is presented out of competition on Sunday, September 6 in Sala Grande at 2 PM.
Andrea Pallaoro starts from a subject by Bernardo Bertolucci
Among the films in competition on Sunday is The Echo Chamber by Andrea Pallaoro, starring Luca Marinelli, Alicia Vikander and Susan Sarandon (spotted in Via Garibaldi, long live Susan).
The film originates from an original subject by Bernardo Bertolucci that remained unpublished after his death in 2018. The screenplay was subsequently developed by Pallaoro together with Ilaria Bernardini and Ludovica Rampoldi. At the centre of the story is a relationship in which love, suffering, desire for intimacy and need for control end up intertwining.
The Echo Chamber is scheduled in Sala Grande on Sunday, September 6 at 7:45 PM.
Gael García Bernal between Cuba and Mexico
The Venezia Spotlight section presents Hombre al agua, directed by and starring Gael García Bernal, in Sala Giardino at 9 PM.
The cast also includes Jorge Salinas and Ricky Martin. The protagonist is Camilo, a young Cuban lifeguard who saves a wealthy Mexican businessman from drowning. He then moves to Mexico and marries the man’s daughter, progressively discovering that he is involved in a project very different from what he had imagined.
The other films on Sunday
On Sunday, September 6, while the Regata Storica takes place on the Grand Canal, at the Lido in competition are presented Ga-neung-han Sa-rang (Possible Love) by Lee Chang-dong, and Kvinde Ukendt (Woman Unknown) by May el-Toukhy.
For Orizzonti, scheduled are The Difficult Bride by Rubaiyat Hossain, and Oase (Oasis) by Jannis Lenz.
