Art Itineraries Inspired by the Night of Museums
The Night of Museums has arrived, leading us to discover Venetian museums. Palaces, galleries, and hotels host must-see exhibitions and artworks that tell the story of a city to be fully experienced.
The Civic Museums of Venice, the Gallerie dell’Accademia, Palazzo Grimani, the House of Carlo Goldoni, and the National Archaeological Museum are participating in the initiative by keeping their halls open for three hours beyond closing time. The price for each ticket purchased during the 3 extra hours is 1 euro (in addition to the usual free admissions).
Our itinerary for the Night of Museums winds through calli and campielli, taking us also into the secret rooms of Venice, in search of fire-breathing dragons, water sources, private residences, hidden gardens, and poolside cocktails.
Created in 2005 by the French Ministry of Culture, under the patronage of UNESCO, the Council of Europe, and ICOM, the Night of Museums offers an opportunity to gather in places of art and enjoy the city. Here are the Venetian museums participating in the European Night of Museums and their opening hours:
Doge’s Palace from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
First floor of the Correr Museum, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Murano Glass Museum from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Burano Lace Museum from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Museum of Palazzo Mocenigo from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Ca’ Rezzonico – Museum of 18th-Century Venice from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Giancarlo Ligabue Natural History Museum of Venice from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Museum of the House of Carlo Goldoni from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Palazzo Grimani Museum, from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM (last entry 9:30 PM) with the event series One Evening at the Palace.
Museum of Oriental Art of Venice, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The Gallerie dell’Accademia, from 7:15 PM to 10:15 PM (ticket office closes half an hour earlier), with two guided tours at 7:30 PM and 8:45 PM.
National Archaeological Museum with the guided tour “A New Museum: Perspectives on the New Layout”, curated by Dr. Marcella De Paoli. Reservations are mandatory by calling 041 2967663.
Alessandro Milesi and the Dolcetti Family between the 19th and 20th Centuries, in the evocative spaces of Hotel Giorgione in Campo Santi Apostoli, near Rialto. The exhibition is a unique and precious opportunity as it allows us to discover how people lived in Venice through portraits of characteristic, popular, and aristocratic figures, scenes of daily life, and sunsets over the lagoon.
And after the visit, we will treat ourselves to a poolside cocktail in the hotel garden.
For our #SabatoVeneziano, we plan to stop by to see the secret puppet theater of the House of Carlo Goldoni, look for the dragon of Palazzo Grimani, and then visit an exhibition in a hotel: Alessandro Milesi and the Dolcetti Family between the 19th and 20th Centuries. We challenge you to discover a dragon hidden inside the Palazzo Grimani Museum, an architectural rarity reminiscent of the Roman domus and the Renaissance models of the papal city. Evocative paths lead to the Tribuna and the renovated Doge’s Hall, a precious opportunity to admire a 16th-century aristocratic residence among breathtaking ceilings, classical sculptures, paintings, tapestries, and period furnishings.
