Wetlands is a publishing project that narrates Venice in a new and sustainable way and a laboratory for proposals on global issues, from climate change to overtourism
Wetlands is a publishing project dedicated to Venice, established during the pandemic by the social enterprise ReActiVe, composed of a diverse group of professionals including lawyers, architects, and journalists. It is part of the Upskill Venezia project, a cultural and artisanal business accelerator connecting new technologies with traditional craftsmanship, promoted by Fondazione di Venezia in collaboration with Upskill 4.0, a spin-off of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, together with students from various Italian ITS institutes.
It draws upon international authors working in the city or in residence, who have joined voluntarily to support the project by focusing on sustainability, identity, and cultural pluralism, and on triggering an example of dialogue between modernity and daily life.
The objective is to disseminate a new way of narrating and describing the city and to promote a new spirit of living in Venice, moving beyond self-pity and providing positive and proactive ideas for the city and its inhabitants, analyzing and resolving present environmental issues, and imagining solutions for the future by using Venice as a laboratory for analysis and proposals.
The Wetlands project represents a commitment to the city of Venice: a beginning for a publishing venture that considers the Lagoon as an opportunity to analyze crucial global issues, such as climate change and the effects of overtourism.
